Japanese Military In Space? Real Gundams Soon?

According to United Press International: Japan's Liberal Democratic Party has drafted a bill to allow Japan's military into space. The calls for the military to venture into space within the parameters of self-defense rights. That would be a drastic change from the current civilian-based limitations that Japan has placed on space ventures. The bill calls for diverting funds from space research and development into security and engineering. Kyodo News reports the bill should be ready for consideration in the Japanese parliament by fall.

It's interesting that Defense Industry Daily has done a writeup on this news including a image of Gundam Seed Destiny with the caption "Not Yet".

Thats not the way lol

Valkyries are way more high tech compared to Gundams. Nuclear Planes that fly faster than mach 20 and have the ability to transform into mechs. Warp technology and aliens from the other side of the galaxy.

Gundam is like a child who has never stepped out of the neighbourhood compared to Macross lol

I think this is more a response to the US's ongoing desire to develope and deploy orbiting weapons platforms, that would circle the globe to 'protect their homeland security', than anything else.

Space is like the biggest unclaimed battle piece yet. If you have some unused satellites, its like having a couple of super weapons ready to be launched (Watch BPS )

LOL

They can't even build their own jet fighter, now they want to talk about developing spacetech for security?

At the current rate, I say the Chinese will get there way before them.

Japan may have the techincal expertise to make such mechs but I don't think they have the funding.

Falling Star? It is a superweapon from the RTS Act of War bascially it brings down satelites from Earth obrit and crashes them onto a targeted area.

Not necessarily true. America's funding is actually rather limited compared to other countries. In fact, because Japan denies our agricultural goods and people in American mostly prefer Japanese materials (electronics, cars, women lol, food), we're actually in a negative deficit with Japan.

They don't want anything of ours, and we want everything from them.

They'd have the funding if necessary, but the question becomes why? They don't even allow police officers on their continent to hold armed weapons. It might emit aggression toward other countries for them to want defense systems in space. It might also seem like they're trying to "check" United States military.

If you ask me, USA is getting out of hand with this "Homeland Security" bullshit and they need to get checked by someone, if not Japan than at least China. Those are two countries with the budget for it.

You really put alot of thought into that.

If the JSDF is really going to get into the space business, things could get interesting alot faster.

2020 for a another moon landing? NASA is seeming a bit pathetic these days.

The lack of a homeland security from previous US leaders is what led to 9/11. With this "Homeland Security bullshit" we have stopped several terrorists attacks. The USA has a right to protect itself from enemies all around the globe. If it takes Orbital Weapons Systems to insure that no country will kill innocent Americans then I am all for building them. To insist that the US needs to be "checked" on by other countries is absured. The USA has never used WMDs recklessly. While several other countries have even used them on their own people (i.e Iraq) or threatened to wipe other countries off the globe (i.e Iran).
