Yeah, it tore the head clean off of the frame itself. PS armor won't do much good if the inside & connecting frame itself can't support the hits the armor takes.

I think a portion of the head got blasted off by Calamity, then the rest was finished by Raider.

Couldn't they have developed the phase shift armor in such a way that a portion of it activates when the MS is about to get hit? They were able to develop the beam redirection gimmick with Akatsuki, so I guess that wouldn't have been impossible.

I think you've more or less described "Trans-Phase Armor". The first Druggies had it.

I couldn't tell the difference, since all of their MS were colored.

That was an awesome concept. Didn't they implement that on the newer suits in GSD?

also it hates gundams like the buster. i think trans-phase armor has a limit to taking some physical hits at a time.

And improved it further - it apparently doesn't drain the battery at all while it's powered on.

Well, it only activates when it's hit, so it's sort off like the reactive armor blocks on a modern tank - if something hits it, it goes off to prevent damage. However, if the TPS-armor takes a lot of hits the battery will run out of energy.

I've seen an faq on G Generation DS stating that the new Gundamjacked Gundams have Variable Phase Shift Armor. Now what does THAT do?

TS armor supposingly fails when it takes numerous hits at the same spot. Eitherway, it's far more effective than PS armor if your not using a nuclear reactor.

Variable PS armor is what the Strike Rouge and Impulse had.

Red -> Close combat so the PS armor's strength is increased.

Green -> Long range combat so the PS armor's strength is decreased for the weaponry system.

Blue -> Versatile combat so the PS armor's strength is in the middle.

Strike Rouge had a stronger version I guess since it was "pink" and when Kira reprogrammed it he gave it the blue color.

Oh I see. I was wondering why Impulse had different colored armor everytime it changes Silhouettes. Thanks for the info.

I'm wondering, why do you need to make PS armor stronger while it already stops any kind of physical weapon?

It's effectively a forceshield; there is a top-limit before the PS fails, so giving it more energy increases resistance threshhold. That's also why the orginal Genesis has a damn thick PS.

I'm no engineer, but at the velocity and speed (at close range) inwhich Shinn attacked, were you expecting the anti-ship sword to be bent by merely PS Armour?

PS Armour, while it's some pretty outstanding stuff it isn't the "Hand of God" (I think Mwu got the "Hand of God" Armour in .//hack )...It will fail if hit by the presice number of beam-blasts as intimated by Andy during the desert arc of SEED (Can't remember the exact number)... In any event I think Shinn stomach-ramming FREEDOM in the right spot shows you it's limits..

It's a general rule that you disregard all shielding when melee weapons are used. It's not a science; it's just Gundam tradition. It's the justification for why there is any need for melee when you have plasma, rail, and anti-matter range weapons.

Officially? "Shinn Stab" had overloaded PS threshold by concentrating the attack on a single point and ram into it at full speed.

Animation wizardry wise? For a brief moment before the stabbing, Shinn's AS sword obtained a beam-tip. Don't ask, don't tell.

(We have gone through this in detail in the past, but the forum crash erased all of it.)

Having pink hair doesnt really wear down Lacus' power, nor does she really have to turn it on or off anyway.
It doesn't really protect her from any physical attack either... or does it? lol

No, genetic mutation as a result of the pixie dust pouches stored in her chest.
