(L) Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora

Question: Do I need to watch Kannaduki no Miko before watching this? Cause I watched that show a long time ago and I remember nothing about it other than the fact that it has some yuri and mecha.

No. Kyoshirou is a separate universe compared to Kannazuki no Miko. The storyline is completely different, with the only real similarities being a number of recycled character designs.

It's not related plot wise, but it uses very similar technical aspect about the execution.

Comparing the first 7 episodes of both, I must say I liked KnM better so far.

It depends on what you didn't like about KnM and what you like in general.

The mood of the series is completely different, imo. Worth trying a few episodes.

Actually, I think the problem is with Kuu.

she's rather one track minded as the prime focus character

Kyoshiro is set up to fall.

Setsuna is set up to explode

Which makes them both interesting characters.. IMO

Kaishaku stories tends to have what I call sledgehammer to a fable approach

a mix of poignancy and mean spiritedness

Imagine sleeping beauty.. now imagine sleeping beauty if it midway, the prince horse turns into a dragon, kills the prince and the next part of the story deals with the the now awakened sleeping beauty taking revenge

If you don't like that kind of story telling you might not like this anime

Since we're having this comparison discussion with KnM and Kyoshiro...

I'm my own personal belief that Kaon and Himiko are future reincarnations of Chikane and Himeko. I don't think there's anything official to agree or disagree with that, but it's what I like to think. It makes the series more enjoyable to me with that mindset.

Well, she did from episode 8+, but we haven't seen episode 8 yet of this series, so Kaon still has hope!

I didn't like KnM, but I like this show a lot. If I keep liking this show so much, I'll probably take another look at KnM. The first time, I didn't like the guy, or the monster aspect, or the mecha, and I was comparing the female characters and the subtlety of feeling unfavorably with Marimite. I thought it was a wild mix of genres that didn't work, whereas this seems to be a mix that works. But maybe it's just that my taste has evolved (for better or worse).

Oh Kaoru, your taste has definitely taken a turn for the worse, just like the rest of us if you enjoy a show with gazillion shower scenes and glittering fantasies...Okay just kidding. I'm sure that your taste has evolved for the better if you enjoyed a show like Simoun so much.

This show is so much fun to parody. The shower is now the place to do any deep thinking. Kipp, in your soap opera, there should be one episode entitled "Shower Interlude, Part 1".

the point of KnM wasn't about genre mixing.. the mecha and orochi were irrelevant--more like context roles--compared to the chikane x himeko relationship that was central to the story. KnM is also vastly different compared to Maria-sama. Marimite is very idealized and all attempts are made to keep things pure. KnM just rips your heart out.

back on topic: i've found the bath scenes to be the best parts of this series so far. the kuu x setsuna bath scenes are incredibly cute.. and probably delves the deepest into both kuu's and setsuna's personalities. but then, i'm only at ep 4/5 atm

pretty much the same with me if that will help ya LCeh

basically this show is another level above KnM ~ from what i see this series is a lot more unpredicatble so maybe the attraction is there? tho i think KnM has one of the best ends its the start and middle that got me bored ~ this series had a shakey start at first but now its broken out for what i thought was going to be episodic (like KnM)

oh my ep 8 was another unpredictable head bashing ep >.<

firstly...the moment weve all been waiting for...did kyoshiro "do it" with kuu...or did her gently put her to bed? well the answer is neither!!! kyoshiro threw her off and ran out!!! now that was unexpected...

kuu is obviously smashed mentally...she nearly jumps off a cliff in her own little illusion but kyoshiro manages to save her...and that is the second shocker...kyoshiro confessed his love for kuu...and in walks setsuna...she breaks down crying and in her fury even activates her powers ~ but who comes to crash the party? well its non other than kyoshiro's dear brother...

kazuya dances in like a drag queen (papi!~) together with Waruteishia ~ at first it was all lovey dovey with kuu saying "oji sama" and kyoshiro running towards his brother from some love...then it hits...i mean kazuya ~ he slams a ball of energy into kyoshiro causing him to smash into a wall ~ and with the dent created im surprised he isnt dead ~

and with kuu shocked here comes that line again..."lets go...together" said by kazuya...what will kuu do? and will setsuna freak out into beserk mode? O.o

andother thing to take for this em...it seems that kaon is released from mika's spell...but methinks mika has found a bigger sealer O.o

Hands up, anyone who saw all that coming. I sure didn't, although in retrospect maybe I should have.

Kuu means "empty" and Kuu certainly seems empty now. She was just coming to terms with Kyoushirou declaring his love, when a devastated and confused Setsuna shows up. I was hoping Kuu would tell Kyoushirou not to go and totally reject Setsuna in favor of her, but to be kind to her, too. But she was still too empty and confused to do anything like that when suddenly, in a burst of light and a shower of feathers, Kazuya and Waruteisha show up, with Kazuya seeming a bit like a Zettai Tenshi himself. What will Kuu do? Does she love Kyoushirou, or does she love her prince? Will Setsuna rush to defend Kyoushirou? Will Kuu's powers for peace come into play to prevent bloodshed? Or will she remain confused and empty? She just gets shock after shock.

And we get cliffhanger after cliffhanger. I have to admit that even my high tolerance for melodrama was tested this week, by Kyoushirou floating in the lake -- in his uniform -- and by his showing up just in time to catch Kuu when she dove off the clock tower. I expected her to begin to fly, but instead he caught her arm. I was just able to suspend disbelief and get the great, high-drama feeling from it, though. The arrival of Kazuya and Waruteisha (great character design) was wonderfully done.
