I assume you're talking about virtual console, right?

If so, then from what I've heard, theyre all relatively small.. NES games being a couple of KB, SNES being a few megs and N64 being 10-15 and such.

Er yeah, I suppose ALL games currently available on Virtual Console combined times two would still fit on the Wii's internal flash memory of 512 Mb RAM. Most ROMs are pretty small, afaik Super Mario 64 probably won't be any larger than 8 Mb* if I recall correctly. You'd probably run out of Wii points (=cash) before you run out of flash memory

*) Note that I don't own a Wii, but these are the sizes of ROM files you can download for Nintendo emulators for PC

I was told that all/some VC games are actually embedded with an own emu,
so they will take up more space than a normal ROM.
However i cannot confirm it myself, untill i get my machine.

in that case i might as well just get a 256MB SD card, i just want to use it to save game files, no point getting one too big....

It makes some sense I guess for games to be embedded with their own emulator. God knows what pirating chaos would ensue if the Wii had its own built in emulators for all those systems.

yeah, wonder why it took so long?

Maybe the SD card he had was one with slow transfer speed? like 1.2MB/sec?

in that case i might just get a 60x (9MB/sec) transfer speed SD card, like

Or even a 80x (12MB/sec) just in case

well not really expensive, only cost between 20-22 euros

Well im not sure if they can take the speed, i do know Wii can't accept SDHC cards, but that hasn't been confirmed.

if anyone has a high speed or high capacity SD card, can some confirm if these cards work on the wii? there must be someone out in the US who can check this out, you got two shipments of the Wii already....

lol, the AAFES Exchanges here in Germany have signs in the store saying they don't have the PS3 and the Wii, and yet....they have the games for them XD

But, they might be like this one store, where I used to go all the time, they didn't have any XBOX 360's out front, but when I asked them, they said they had them in back because main management said not to display them yet. lol after I told them that, the next day XBOX 360's were out front and selling out

So, sorry I can't help with that SD thing. No Wii's here

You can update the firmware with the Wii right? I'm thinking they'll perhaps release an update which fixes the SD transfer speeds.

Or maybe it's a launch set issue.. hmm.

First reported cases of "Wii Elbow"!!!

I find this absolutely hilarious. People REALLY need to exercise if they can't play Wii Boxing without breaking into a sweat.

I'm actually really interested in SDHC compatibility as well. Do you think they could add that in a future system upgrade, or is it hardware limited?

wrt speed, I have the Sandisk 2gb Ultra II SD card. I tried copying my Legend of Zelda VC game (22 blocks) to and from the card and I got 11-12 seconds transfer to the card and 8-9 seconds from the card back to the wii. Note that the LoZ game is a 90 block download, so I'm not sure what it is really copying...

thats interesting, because the Sandisk Ultra II series of SD cards are rated at 60x which is 9MB/sec write (10MB/Sec read).

I think i'll go for the 80x speed. (12MB/sec Write)

As for the SDHC, well its a software thing, because SDHC runs on the SD 2.0 driver thing.

So in theory, if Wii can't take it at this moment, it can be enabled via a software patch

So there maybe there is hope. Mind you, they better have a good reason for you to warrant a SD card over 2GB in the first place....

mmm...come to think of it, the slow speed could be the confirmation of SD 1.0 driver.....
