for all the eri fans out there, lets just hope that its because of some matters that she has to attend to that she has to go to england lol.. it wouldn't be that much of an enjoyment to watch anymore if any of the main characters were to just suddenly disappear X_x

yea thats true, the producers wont take that kind of risk. Eri and Yakumo became pretty popular, even more popular than Tenma. For this episode, Yakumo may seem emotionless, but her actions speak for itself. There is love in this episode, but not expressed by words or sexual interaction, but by support, care, and actions.

The thing I don't understand is why Eri is so popular in the Japanese polls. Yes, she has an interesting personality but she's also half-gaijin. I always thought that Japanese audiences preferred characters that were like them, you know, Japanese.
I would prefer if Harmia ended up with Yakumo or even Tenma but Eri? She comes off as really bitchy to me. I think though, judging from the manga that School Rumble is too light of a romantic comedy to have any real pairings. I think School Rumble (both manga and anime) will just end with an ambiguous ending. You know, the imagine your own conclusion ending like Tenchi or Hand Maid May or other multiple pairings shows. The show doesn't even have a plot so in my opinion that rules School Rumble out as being a conclusive love story. Last edited by lubczyk; 2006-07-23 at 15:18. |

As much as I like Eri, I too have been puzzled over some of those things and mentioned it in other nearby threads. Good points on ambiguous ending like those series or Maburaho. I adored HMM so I wouldn't mind SR following a similar path. It avoids total satisfaction but also disappointment.
Eri is kind of bitchy, but I tend to like such characters (in girls) bc their humor has more wit and it's cool seeing their different sides. Harima and Eri both have different sides, whereas lots of other chars only have one face they present. True, SR though likeable doesn't seem to have much of a central plot other than interactions between characters and what comes out of those. Maybe that will change if things heat up with Eri chan and England and such

wahh... i LOVE episodes with harima and either/both tsukamotos... but man... i really just want more harima x tenma development... ^_^ even though this episode was kind of a one-step-forward-two-steps-back episode, it was still funny as heck!!
i LOVE harima's new high pitched scream! funnnnny! |

This series has really found it's legs and has great momentum right now...It was shaky early-on but SR2 has finally hit it's stride(It actually has started to get really good in the last 3 or 4 eps)...This is perhaps one of the best episodes in both series...I can't remember how many times I rewinded scenes it was so good...It seriously examined the biggest love triangle in the series and still kept the comedy at a high level...I gotta give it to Tenma after this episode...At times I have been shaky on her, but she really shows why she is the main female character in this show..It's because her character is capable of so many different levels of comedy (physical comedy, dumb comedy, chibi-comedy, innocent comedy, creating caricatures of herself and others)...While watching this episode I was thinking to myself if this was real-life Tenma would be like an actress on a skit-comedy show...She exhibits so many different levels of a real comedian on a skit-show..It's just wierd to look at an anime character as if their playing a role (Like all the skits Tenma did in this one, especially when she did her friends on the phone)...I laffed really hard at alot of scenes in this episode and it really felt "right" (Like this is the core of the show's success--episodes like this)...All the subplots with the HUGE Manga editor and Yakumo's true-feelings starting to show, were all played great aswell...This was a terrific episode...and it seems the next episode will continue on the same great dynamic...They even used all the ep-time on the episode instead of the "after-credit" extras like most eps...Eventhough I love some side-characters (The fat horny kid especially^^), I'm looking forward to more of THIS School Rumble...

I think the reason it got good again is because they are focusing on the main characters again (Eri, Yakumo, Tenma, Harima), which makes for more interesting stories than the side characters. If they keep going with what they did this ep, I think SR II would be a great sequel, even though they sort of messed up midway through.

I have a couple of questions about this episode and the previous ones.
1) could somebody remind me why Tenma must not see Harima's face? I saw the season one of school rumble, but it was a while ago and I have forgotten about that part. 2) when did Eri find about Harima's love for Tenma? she seems to know about it in episode 13 but I cannot remember how and when she found out about it. Btw, I agree this episode was one of the best! I was smiling all the way through. Btw, are there any other similar series that are as good? |

1. Harima saved Tenma from some thug long back, and she registered his face. Now he covers it up bc he doesn't want her to recognize for some reason. Esp the eyes, apparently, and the hair to some extent. Thus shades and altered hairdo. With a girl's headband too hehe
2. 13, was that when they went out for Tenma's bday meal? It's said that the costly meal ep where Eri footed the bill for Harima+Tenma and Co. was sort of an epiphany for her. "Baka". 3. Love Hina! Umm similar...check that Haruhi Suzumiya one, although I think it's overrated and not nearly as entertaining as SR, but ppl seem to like it...fanatically. Some also like Ouran High Host Club but I h8d the few eps I watched. Similar in what way? School life, romance, romantic comedy, comedy? Or you can forget about all that and go with surefire harem and ecchi! There are similar series but not as good, or series as good but not similar--that's what makes this SR! I just watched Mahou Sensei Negima, it's school life but only remotely similar, and not as good. All of these are super recent except Love Hina (best series ever though). Oh you've been here way longer than I have, you should know most of this.

As for School Rumble, I found the scene where Yakumo stands up to the giant Chief Editor Gotou Oyama quite cool, but strange. I am not really sure if it is her character to stand up to big bullies, but if she is not afraid of him, then she is not afraid of anything, apparently. I wonder if any other character in School Rumble will be able to do the same. I would imagine they would at least flinch.
