Irrc he implied something along the lines of Hades giving him the title when he referred to Hades himself as a god; except that the god got roflstomped, and Zancrow was just a wannabe.

Of course not.

But, anyways, it looks to me that both Zeref and Zancrow have a pseudo Rinnnegan (pupils made of concentric circles for non Naruto readers) even if it's less apparent with the anime coloring.

I'll admit that he didn't eat the whole thing but Natsu has also "bit off and spat back" against the vulcan and well... that looked way more like spitting back than what you describe as such here. On top of that the dialog was clear to imply he ate it using his dragonslayer powers and unleashed it back 100 fold using the eat element ability of dragonslayers. It also wasn't a dragon roar since he didn't do a massive inhale, so logic implies it was the eat element based on what we know of dragonslayer abilities.

Now this doesn't mean that that happened for sure but the darkguild guy sure believed that is what was happening and I see no reason why it wouldn't be the case since this was setup for how strong these 2 are and that they are dragonslayers, the ch did a decent job of both imho.

Loyalty to family and friends is a frequent theme running throughout Fairy Tail. Is this also something you feel passionate about?

Absolutely. My friends have helped me a lot in the past, and that's something I wanted to directly show in this manga. And that was the beginning of Fairy Tail actually. But, because I've so busy lately, my list of friends in my cell phone has been quickly edited down (laughs).

In Fairy Tail, often the "villain" characters get redeemed in one way or another. Do you believe in giving people second chances and that anyone can be redeemed?

Absolutely. However, I value life heavily, and that's something to keep in mind. Sometimes I depict where a character passes away, but then it turns out they actually hadn't, but I never draw how someone who was actually already dead coming back to life; that's not something that I depict.
So much for anyone dieing... ever.

Fairy Tail is a very imaginative manga. It has a lot of surprises in it, and it's also very funny. How do you come up with ideas for your characters and stories, and what do you do when you run out of ideas and inspiration?

So, at the actual moment that the idea is born, I'm not aware of it. It happens coincidentally and spontaneously. But I'm constantly thinking of ideas. Even as I was walking here from the staff room I was thinking about it, and even now, in the corner of my mind, I'm actually thinking of ideas. But when I can't think of ideas, I sleep it off. I just have to change my emotions and feelings.
So if I'm reading this right, there is no "grand plan" at work.

In the postface of Fairy Tail volume (don't know if that's translated in English) he has made clear more than once that at most he know how an arc will end when he start it, and from time to time even the end change

And in the Q&A at the end of volume 21 it's stated that the Edolas Grey and Leon where both in love with Jubia (a little foreshadowing for chapter 256)

After following the link to that interview, I couldn't help but laugh at the somewhat ironical plug for the Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva anime. Across the top frame of the webpage: "A Brain-teasing Quest for Eternal Life" - could almost be a tagline for FT with minimal tweaking.

I think he means in the sense of actual resurrection. Big bad voodoo and zombie stuff.

Technically one Lisana still died. As cheap as it was.

Ikr? The old man has been like 99.9% dead a few times now.

Pretty much. Here, I'll translate:

translates to:

People being casually wished back to life in Dragonball got really old, really quickly. I don't like revolving doors into the afterlife. As such while I may occasionally tear open plot holes to ret-con someone into never having died, I will not have them actually be resurrected from the dead. This is also why I leave so many defeats ambiguous instead of confirming someone dead. For example if I confirm "Yeah, that gapping chest wound Erza inflicted on her opponent was fatal within minutes." I can't later change my mind and bring the character back. If they turn into a tree instead of breathing their last, well being a tree is much easier to fix than being dead.

That'd likely be a function of trying for a series that didn't end up leaning towards being sad.

I don't really mind as long as the characters are good, it's funny to read, and I have fun reading it. I'll forgive him on a few plot details/holes for the time being. And if Jellal stops showing up for awhile.

Zoldeo, Azuma, Zancrow, Hades?

Sure Azuma turned into a tree, but that leaves him in about the same "technically alive" state as Ur was. Zoldeo melted away into nothingness, which is easier to cobble together an explanation for him surviving than some other deaths, but still not very good.

Zancrow and Hades are particularly screwed in that they were felled by an attack from a Zeref that had decided to kill again and left bodies behind.

Zancrow being in the worst shape given the comparison between Natsu downing him and Zeref downing him having his eyes blank when Zeref downed him, followed by Zeref remarking that it was another dark moment on his conscience, apologizing for not even knowing Zancrows name, and closing his eyes like one does for the dead.

Them too! Although they were properly retconed, so I found that one to be well written and a case of dead without knowing it, rather than mysteriously still alive.
