Need help with my current work

Hey,
This is the image I'm currently working on.

Note: She is not going to be naked. I havent decided on a clothing set yet.

now, i'm looking for critique for the basis of this sketch. Some things feel off but i can't place them.

Also, I'm having a hell of a time with a hair style. the following were some quick sketches i did to help visualize

and

but I'm definately willing to listen for sugguestion on anything better concerning the hair.

the theme of the image is that she fell down and hurt her self. With the glasses, i was going for a nerdy book worm type.. so having difficultly with a hairstyle to match this.

anyway, that's it.

That cleaned up nicely. I do have a couple suggestions although it may be too late (or maybe not).

On her left hand (our right). I think that the line on the top of her hand should have been cut off by the line of her wrist instead of the way it is now. Also the cuff her shirt on the same arm should have curved and wrapped around her forearm. This would have aided in creating the effect of the top view that you were emulating. Also some of the folds on the same arm could have curved a bit more to support the view as well.

I hope this helps.

Very nice job with the base colors and lineart.

Just a suggestion when you're shading/lighting: Remember to take account for where your light source is coming from and the intensity of that light source.

And yes, a background would be nice to accompany the wonderful job on the person. A school hallway/stairway perhaps?

It's a pencil sketch i drew and scanned into photoshop, then I use my tablet to do some cleaning up, then i sketch in possible design options. once i have what i like, i use the pen tool to drop anchor points and i create paths to stroke an outline.

Once I get a base outline, I then go back over it again using paths and the brush tool to add varying thicknesses to the lines. Once that's over, I used the laso tool and masks to color in the parts. Then for shading, I use the pen tool to define a path for the area of shade or hightlight.

i actually screen captured what i did for some of it, but I was having problems with it afterwards and decided to give up on the movie, because i was spending more time fooling around with the movie than the picture =p

I would like to add a background, but something like that is usually above me and anything I would try to do would bring down the quality of the picture sadly.

But i'll keep posting updates on the progess.

Thanks guys for all the comments! if you want to see more of my art and stuff go to my website: http://www.auburn.edu/~shoemal

Which one? I could even get you a higher resolution version since I have to scale down my images for my website.

Also, fyi, the picture is looking sick. Working on a background now, but the shading turnned out wonderfully I think.

nice. I'm glad you accepted my input. If you wanted to do a background, I would imagine that for this scene it should be quite easy. I would put a stone floor with a curb at the egde like in the upper left corner of the image to show the road's direction. Then add some grass or something to fill in the gaps.

oh- and use a vanishing point to lay out the lines to add depth. but place the vanishing point way off the page when setting it up.
