gravitation, interesting name you picked being that its also the title of a moho anime. Who knows who cares. Do as you like and live your life, your the only one that can live it so don't worry about the social and political aspect also the U.S. is by far the worst when it comes to that topic so I doubt you'll have any problems. I wish you well and hope you do make it over to japan feel free the send me a e- postcards via email when you get their.

I'am not gay but I always wonder if I were, how would people look at me, I already know my parents with abandon me they have told me that and my siblings that many times as we grew up. Never feel ashamed of whom you are, because its not your fault and sadly people don't realize that they judge quickly and don't put themselves in your position they make it out to be bad thing before thinking about it. People say that these abominations are hurting society and threat them inhumanely but the truth is they are just fools, they aren't scared, because they are not thinking they refuse to even consider a point of view if it doesn't match their own and once again I get to the point of humans being all evil because we are filthy creatures that kill and persecute our own and refuse to accept all people, and acknowledge all suffering.

Is there a particular reason you should tell them your sexuality either way? "Hi, I'm <insertnamehere> and I'm gay". You do realize that doesn't seem very intelligent, don't you? Not that saying right off the bat that you are straight makes you look any smarter.

Japanese people don't discuss very personal issues with people they aren't close friends with, and I believe it is seen as improper to do so.

Translated from a Danish (of all languages ) book about Japan:

Japanese people are largely friendly and helpful, but as a tourist one shouldn't expect to get close to the local populace. In Japan one doesn't take friendship lightly, they often last throughout life. Visits in private homes are usually restricted to family, close friends and co-workers.

Occasionally one will meet Japanese who are interested in small-talk (I think, the Danish word "Passiar" is completely unlike any Norwegian word I know). The main theme is (of course) Japan, how one feels about the food etc, and of course your own country. The conversation is kept at a polite, light and interesting level. In-depth explanations and very personal opinions aren't considered proper in Japan.

Personal interpretation of an excerpt from the Danish edition of "Turen går til Japan" ("the trip goes to Japan", literally translated), which I got for Christmas for some inexplicable reason. Probably the shelf I filled with manga (and I requested another shelf) had something to do with it.

Unless you start making out in public, I seriously doubt people will care too much. I'm sure some will think whatever they want, but Japanese people are polite enough to keep such feelings to themselves most of the time.

well I'm just being plain old Hetro-sexual, but how these things are take in Japan? I dunno, I guess just like any other country.

Being Homosexual still causes problem in most countries, why? I dunno, some people are making problems out of everything.

All I can say is that I believe in gay rights and stuff,, but prefer the other type

just so you know

Hey Gravitation, I'm not gay or Japanese so I have no clue. But I did find this book if your interested enough to spend a few dollars. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...65719?v=glance

And this one (can buy both together for a discount) http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

Maybe you can just go to a local bookstore like barns and nobles and skim through them without paying. I hope they help

it's so different from the japan i see in animes among others. you sure that's still current?

as for gays, ulgy straight guys will like gays since they create better chances for them to get with a girl, pretty straight guys will like gay guys since they're of the same kind. pretty straigh girls will like gay guys because they're so hot, and the fact they can never get with them makes gay guys even hotter. ulgy straight girls will always like gays since they can just blame them for not having a pretty boyfriend themselves. as for lesbians, for they're in the same league. lastly, but most importantly, gay guys always like gay guys....and that's self-explanatory.

so, you ought to be well-liked in japan, or anywhere else in this world. but japan's so uncivilized, you probably have more to worry about than the sexuality exposure thing.

ack.

I think that anime alone will prove a very inadequate source of relevant info about Japanese people and its culture. Seriously, if my parents had based their opinion on the US from what they had seen in American movies, I doubt they would have taken us for a summer vacation there when we were little.

Ah, I also said among others. Which hinted anime is not my only source. I know an old couple who live in Tokyo, she's friend with my mom when they came to visit New York, even though we're not family memebers and close friends, she invites us to her house in Tokyo none the less. and I'm talking about a whole different generation from the Japanese youth today. So.
and i think if you watch a good number of hollywood productions, it does reflect a certain perspective of U.S. today. Since inspirations do come from real life.

Enough of that, i'd feel really bad if i didn't contribute on the gay topic...sorry for digressing. a lot of j-rock bands actually tried to put on the impression of gayishness just to get popular, like Malicer Mazer, among others. and they're really popular, in the mainstream actually, transvestites, gays, minorities...etc. I can't really think of a country that's more encompassing than japan. the u.s. is much more conservative in terms of that stuff. plus, Japan and China had gays way before any other countries even heard of it. if i turn homosexual one day, i'd want to go live in japan...and i'll be making out in the public all i want. ha!

The book I quoted from was written in 2001, so I would assume it's fairly current. Of course, people are different. I'm sure there are some Japanese who might voice their opinion on such matters as homosexuality, but for the most part I think people there, like everywhere else, concern themselves with their own life more than other people's. Most people don't like to publicly make fools of themselves.
