Plugin that auto-closes Firefox after a certain period of time?
Somehow it seems that the time I spend on web-surfing has been increasing continuously. Frankly I know it is not healthy to be a web addict, but I am poor at self-discipline
. I have tried to use some auto-shutdown programs for Windows. They usually works pretty good, except when I have to torrent anime overnight, and I am left with no choice but to rely on my unreliable self-discipline.I would like to know if there is any plugin for Firefox that can automatically close/lock the browser at a specified time, or after browsing for a specified period? Thanks in advance! |

Well, it is 2am now in my time zone and I am still online, even though I will have to go to school next morning. And yea, since I still have a file on Share, I cannot use the auto-shutdown program .I guessed that such a plugin would be a simple task for those programmers who mangaed to write all those adblocking and tab-browsing plugins. But maybe they couldn't see any demand in making one - probably there aren't many who are both web-addicts and are desperate in finding ways to cut down their online time. |

Better think awhile…

No offence, but the request is a just plain silly... lets face it, if you are that addicted, nothing would stop you from running the browser again if you leave the computer on...
If you can't learn to control you habits yourself, and you think it might be a problem, you should consider seeking proper medical advice/help. Not all problems on the Internet have technical solutions.

speaking of which i'm reminded of.. if you have a slightly newer type of Dlink router.. and there is a firewall setting in the router... you can actually put time in there that allows you to use the internet(block port 80 on times that you wish to stop surfing) that way you can still download anime on uTorrent or anything else that uses other ports.

I suspect that ImperialPanda is suggesting that he needs to slice his computer in half to stop browsing the web. This is what Yuuko does in episode 6 of xxxHolic after invoking the name of Zantetsuken.

. Now when I think more about that, probably "lazy bum" is a more accurate description.Frankly I can live nice and healthy without any withdrawal symtom, even if I am stripped off access to modern day technology for months. Those summer camps and training camps come to my mind. Addict or not, if my browser crashes for whatever reason, I will simply falls onto my bed and sleep right away. Call me a fool, a silly bum or a weirdo if you like, but by 2 or 3 am , I simply am too lazy to do anything, including restarting the browser, waiting for it to load, and logging in to dozens of sites one by one. The problem is that, without the shutdown program (when downloading stuff overnight) or a scheduled browser crash , I usually ain't aware of the passing of the time. Not to mention that I am too lazy to close the whole batch of browser windows I have opened. ![]() Quote:
. I am using LevelOne router. Not sure if it has this setting or not, but I will check it out once I have returned home. Thanks again.

Good luck trying to control your habits; I've been where you are. And sometimes I revert back for a night. It would definately be in your best interest to practice self-control no matter what the cost. Now since I'm still 19, and doing those late night runs myself. I shall cease my advice now...

If you want to auto-shutdown windows go into your run box and type in:
shutdown -i That'll bring up a box that'll basically list out the amount of secs. left before windows shut down. You'll need to enter in the name of your comptuer or its IP address and just type in anything for the comments. I do that all the time when I need to download something over night and I can estimate how long it'll take for the torrents to finish. |

Maybe you should perform a planned task of locking off your destop (would this help?)
You need to execute the following task: "rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation" You have to type in your logon password to make use of the whole desktop environment again (running programs won't be affected, you just have no access to anything, until you type in your password). I suppose you know how to work with the task planner utility from windows. You can even let the task perform i.e. every minute for a given period of time (in the advanced options of the task). It'ld be very annoying for you to logon your destop every minute... again and again. I assume that will aid your lazyness enough to help you go to bed. btw. you can task plan a shutdown the same way... there exist a shutdown.exe in windows. The command "X:\WINDOWS\system32\shutdown.exe -s" should shutdown your PC as a task (maybe try with additional option /f).
