I liked the first two episodes despite the snail-like pace of the battles still. The character designs, I'd say remain well-made, and there's going to be another hot girl in the next episode. But most of all, I like the story and the animation. If they quickened up the pace of the next batch of episodes I won't look for anything more. I wish for Huzzah to speed up, also. Haha, I'm kidding.

Kudos to Huzzah for this wonderful series ... Cheers.

Ep 5, another great looking episode (spankingly gorgeous HD raws help) but...

These episodes spend an awful lot of time doing nothing. I think I'll stop watching now. IMO, the only redeeming quality is the little sister's design and voice-acting; she should be moved to a better anime, like an organ transplant.

You could always go watch Rahxephon, or the original Reideen, or Chouja Reideen.

Hm...the animation is pretty dang good, but man the music just doesn't work and it's getting old already! And there's a character I already don't like ~_~, that guy for the first few episode is all hounding him (nearly stalking).

And big question; Where does that giant robot keep vanishing to and repairing and fueling? I wish everything is selfefficent like that! First it came out of the earth now it's coming out of the sky.....

Dun know. But when i saw the OP, it was like a love story or something anime. The mecha is shit ass slow and the relunctant hero is a neeerrddd. He does nothing and yet hes being lo-ve lo-ve lo-ve while people are dying like shit!! Story is being too predictable!!!!

Wow I think I really need to start watching this Reideen incarnation. People are really harsh about a lot of things regarding it and I need to confirm for myself whats what. I'm not sure people are being entirely fair in their judgements of the characters, when I'm sure there are guiltier characters of being nerdy and wishy-washy.

If people want to see slow mecha though go play a mech warrior game. They can be so slow in response it can literally kill you faster than if you were on foot.

In the original Raideen, Mutron is Raideen's power source and it gets its power from the Star of La Mu I believe. It is actually an idol like structure in a mountain that Akira FADO IN's to when he rides his motorcycle off a cliff. That's where it stays. The base is also a giant clam for some reason.

Well I watched episode 1 and lets start with the not so good.

I find it to be good. It's not great or anything, but it's good enough for me.

Ep 6 and no, Akira hasn't spoken yet (she laughs a bit though). Really for someone showing so much emotion in the OP she's not being very consistent.

Still we get lots of nice action, cg is so much better these last two episodes, especially when...
Spoiler:

However aside from that, nice animation and music again. There's one stand-out scene of such deft animation that it deserves special rambling appraisal...

Spoiler for waffle:

Yes, basically. It seems the military pilots have only one tactic against the alien mecha; topple and kill it. Unfortunately that failed against the latest villain in eps 5 and 6 because...

5 Episodes in and...

The Good: Characters. A very diverse cast with interesting traits.
+Shiori. I want her to become the female lead more and more as the story goes on. She is very cute and very believable and shines in more than one dimension.
+Mom and sister. They weren't emo about Junki's father's death. The sister's quirky comments gives a subtle humor to the show.
+The White Heron gang. A hot bike rider, a ninja-like gunner, and a queer audiophile archaeological maniac with penchant for out of the world theories. I would like to see where they go from here.
-Akira. Speak for goodness' sake woman! As much as I love those quiet mysterious girls that have their auras of majesty around them, there's a fine line between mechanical and humane.

The Bad: Mechs. I'm actually hoping that a battle wouldn't start because they would waste valuable character development time on the sluggish movements.
+Reideen. There are a lot of details on the machine that catches my eyes.
-Everything else. Other mechs are really just blocks. There is minimal detail and they move pretty badly. They really need to strap rocket packs onto the arms or something.

Is this really suppose to be a mecha series? It will really do better without them.

PS: Did anyone else go HUH? When they were learning quadratic formula? I mean, they're in high school and Japan has 6 years of elementary school, 3 years middle school, and 3 years high school. So they should be in 10th grade and quadratic formula is taught in first year algebra (8th grade in North America) and Japan is suppose to be ahead in math.

If you want Reideen without the mecha you can always check out the 90's series Chouja Reideen.

Two episodes in (), and so far, I haven felt that any of the battles lasted longer than any of the fast ones we see today. And since they are slow - slow enough for contemplation even - they could always actively pursue character development during those fights. I’m sure we learn more about Junki from his reactions in those scenes. I actually like that they have sluggish movements - gives them a heavy, massive feeling and honestly I like it also because it’s something different from the usual fast mecha action/fights today. It also fits in with the archaic and almost minimalist design of the mechas. Speaking of which, those designs are great because it gives them an unearthly, but not unrealistic, feel. So far, I'm very impressed by Reideen's transforming (? need a better word) scenes - very pretty (I thought "woah, CG is up to date yet still feels somewhat aged"); the reflections off Reideen's gold armour do wonders to further the scene’s realism (in that sense, "not unrealistic"), and they’re slow enough for you to take in all the details. (btw, Reideen looks glorious from up-close. Glorious.)

Well, I suppose it’s easy for me to say all of the above - I'm only two episodes in, but I'm confident that my like for the style and motion of the mecha will continue.

ATM, the only aberration so far that I can think of was in episode two, when Junki struck a pose while crying "Fade in." It's only his second time doing this, for crying out loud. I would have expected him to be a little more apprehensive with that command. That wasn't very believable.
