Did they ever say Yukiji paid off their debt entirely? I thought their current parents covered some of it when they adopted them.

And my point is that Yukiji was a great person. I thought the story made it obvious that she is a shadow of her former self.

it is all pay for.

their adopted parents only adopted them after the debts were pay back.

I still think she is a great person, just that there is no longer any special reason to be great right now. Almost all of her students can do things by themselves or are stupid beyond help, so why do the extra effort?

No, it was Yukiji who paid it all back. They were adopted by the Katsuras later.

How so? The way I can tell she was never really different, at least she was never shown to be different in the past.

There's one more thing I'd like to remind you of. It's Hina herself (who is about as mature and reasonable as it gets), who said that Yukiji is the person she respects most in the entire world (but cautioned Hayate never to tell her). Present tense, she STILL does, even with all drinking and money-spending notwithstanding.

So, in summary, she may be really crazy and flawed, but she's definitely still extraordinary.

That would imply she's changed. She's, at worst, dormant. Give her a real reason to kick ass again, and she will.

I find Ayumu's "trust" in Hina funny. She knows that nothing will happen between Hina and Hayate even if they live together, but she wants to move in because she's afraid that something will happen between Hayate and Luka if they live together?

Hina is a known person to Ayumu, and probably could feel there has always been something that prevented Hina from getting close to Hayate. However, dazzling Luka (after all, Ayumu probably wouldn't know the back story) is an unknown factor, so it's obvious Ayumu would be worried until she either gets to know the circumstances or after some time passes.
