I wouldn't count Matt Serra as a TUF fighter since he had already fought in the UFC a lot before that, especially since he fought some quality opponents.
I think he did it more to get his name out there again which was smart.

I think Lyoto Machida should get the title fight before Liddell, or maybe have Liddell and Lyoto fight and then the winner fights Forrest. I also do not think Liddell has much of a chance to beat Rampage since Rampage has destroyed him twice and is a much cleaner striker.
Also Anderson Silva is moving up to LHW although he recently stated that it is only because the UFC asked him to fight at 205 to throw together a card against Affliction on July 19th and that he doesn't want to fight for the belt at that division.

If Bruce Lee, Jet Li or Jackie Chan was in the UFC : Lidell, Silva, Quinton ALL OF THEM would get their butt KICKED ! I don't see many of the UFC fighters using real combat techniques other than what you see regular people on a street fight.

You realize that all the people in UFC train Martial arts...
MMA= Mixed Martial Arts

Like 90% of the people in UFC have black belts in various martial arts. Jackie Chan would get torn apart, Jet Li would get murdered and Bruce Lee would probably be a contender because of his philosophy and willingness to accept new techniques and not be stuck in one way, pretty much the foundation of MMA.

Mmm, Serra should stick too wrestling. Too bad we'll never see Serra vs Hughes now though = /

I think the problem with Lyoto is that he's boring as hell compared to a lot of the other LHW fighters. Most of the viewers just don't really understand what he's doing.

And oh, I was not aware Silva was moving up to LHW. MW is kind of in a void, then, as far as superstar-quality talent goes.

Silva isn't moving up to LHW on his own accord, UFC asked him to do it to battle the Affliction: Banned card on July 19th. He stated he does not wish to fight for the LHW belt. Also what is this about Serra not fighting Hughes? I heard that fight was more then likely going to take place. Also Serra is known for his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, he's a black belt and an awesome BJJ competition winner.
Lyoto is a very technical fighter and he is amazing at keeping fighters away from him, unfortunately while it is a winning style it isn't the most fun to watch.
As for the middleweight division Anderson Silva is also scheduled to fight Yushin Okami who was KO'ed by Silva from an illegal head kick from guard a while back in a Rumble on the Rock event.

Unless something's been changed, rumors have all been saying that Serra vs Hughes relied on Hughes not getting his ass kicked by everyone =X

To the untrained eye, sure.
There's a general rule in striking that the flashier an attack looks, the more worthless it generally is. There are exceptions to this, like spinning backfists (there's a reason it's banned in boxing), cobra/Superman punches, flying knees, and things like that, but you won't see any movie kicks here. For example, Jean Claude van Damme's famous spinning hook kick in Bloodsport might knock a stuntman out, but against a real person, it's more of a slap.

Comparing real MMA to whatever you're thinking of is analogous to comparing chess to Trouble. More than half of MMA (and any fighting) is in the head, so I wouldn't expect a first-time viewer to understand the mindgames at play. It really is something that takes a long time to appreciate.

Kimbo got whacked in just 14 seconds!

I expected him to win yesterday's CBS mixed martial arts angry

Spoiler for fight clip:

He would've won, had he fought Shamrock, who has an AARP card and lost 7 of his last 8 matches. This is why you don't stake your business on a circus act. It's over now. He just got KO'd by a jab from a guy 30 pounds lighter who's only notable win is over another AARP card holder, Dan Severn.

Long as he saved the money he made from all the hype, he's the real winner.

I just realized.....

The hype-monster got beaten by a TUF runner-up. The only surprising aspect here is how desperate the media wanted this guy to be the next big thing. I guess legit world-class fighters like Rampage Jackson and Anderson Silva were just too nice to be their darlings, not nearly offensive enough, they wanted MMA fandom to be worshiping an out-and-out thug. EliteXC got what they deserved.

CBS has fallen a long way scince the highs of Archie Bunker and Carol Burnett in the 70s on saturadays, Jesus.

Anyways still is a surprise.

Man, that wasn't even a fight at all. MMA on television will need a lot of work to change all the crap it has.

I think even fight quest is better than this, and it still sucks to human weapon

Looks like he misjudged the kick and paid the price for it. /shrug happens to even the greatest of fighters. He's always relied too much on upper body strength imo.

I hear this criticism of Kimbo a lot. "He's a youtube joke, he's not a real fighter, etc." I won't argue his fighting is based on a street brawler background but he *can* fight. Sure, it's not like he was raised on Judo in a temple in China or has 20 belt degrees or whatever but I hope he doesn't let this keep him down if he really wants to pursue this.

On the other hand yeah, the media really did push him as the next big thing. He's good, but not *that* good, but really MMA sports in general don't get much mainstream acknowledgment so they were probably betting he'd help bring some interest in.

Ah, final thing. That gif is huge. I'd rather you just use a link to it out of respect for people with bandwidth caps or slow connections.

As long as it wasn't a submission fight. I find those rather unentertaining.
