In Unicorn. we see the suit equipped with a I field generator in the shield. So my guess is by f91 the I-field help to reinforce the beam shield.
I was just thinking of the Unicorn's shield. Must be a prototype for the beam shield.

Or they are just making the technology more and more compact....but i dobut the Sinanju has anything like that because Frontal was kinda surprised.

I think its funny that AE gives both frames to the Zeon and London Bell and the suits end up having more capabilities than each side could dream of. I didnt seen the Manga but i would love to see Unicorn unleash more and more capabilities.

Well the Sinanju was just the basis for the Unicorn's technologies. There's obviously going to be some differences.

That makes two of us.

The Unicorn Gundam in D-Mode is a beast, as shown in the series and what not. But what about Unicorn Mode? What's the performance level of that mode?

Well presumably it would be comparable to the Sinanju.

So that would basically mean, good enough, and D-Mode Unicorn is overkill?

Basically, but the pilot isn't exactly an elite right now is he?

I figure the Gundam itself kinda takes care of that.

Well yes, but imagine if the thing was being piloted by Full Frontal.

The first "prototype" beam shield was Nu's Fin Funnel generated Barrier.

Beam Shield, technically, is a spin off from Beam Saber. The Beam is generated around a small localised I-field and when it basically cuts and shreds anything that comes into contact with. Hence Beam Shields are not I-field, but just a beam saber employed over a wider area for defence.

So when a projectile beam comes into contact with a beam shield, it will be like 2 beam projectile collidings, it either ends with both of them neutralising each other or the stronger one overcoming the weaker one. You can see that effect when a CV Suit being overwhelmed by F91's VSBR despite blocking it with it's Beam Shield in the movie.

Unicorn's shield are one of a kind attempted at combining a workable MS size I-field with a solid shield that is too expensive to mass produce.

I've been wondering. Is is possible to integrate an I-field generator into a beam shield generator? Like have the beam emitters to the sides and the I-field generator directly in the center pointing forwards?

Crossbone Gundam X-3 had something like that in place. The 2 beam shield generator on both it's arm, when combined together produced a MS size I-field that is strong enough to neutralised most beam projectiles. (Usually, all beam shields generator have I-field in place, but they are just strong enough to keep the beams in the beam shields in a shield shape, not enough to project over the entire MS.)

I don't think there's a legitimate answer.

There has to be some sort of answer out there in the vast UC mechanical files.

AFAIK, it's just stylistic choice on behalf of the animators.

Well, the main reason I ask this is because of the Jegan. In Char's Counter Attack and Unicorn, their beam rifle beams are pink. Like most Federation suits. But in Gundam F91 the beams are yellow. There must be some sort of difference in the strengths of the beams, because the guns are different.

I really think it boils down to what the animators choose.

With what you're specifically asking about though, F91's yellow beams could be stronger simply because the technology is supposedly more advanced.

Actually, the colours of the beams stems from Star Wars' Lightsabers.

Notice how the Jedi prefer Blue and Green while the Sith choose Red for their weapons. In this way, we can differentiate blows landed by Friend from Foe in a Duel.

It's the same here in UC (or any other AUs, for the fact) as to which shots is fired from whom. In short, it's more of a creative choice choice here so that you can be sure a shot is fired by the protagonist mech rather than some unnamed grunt.

A question to the more technically minded Gundam fans.

Abrams tank:61.1 Metric tons
Zaku II:58.1 metric tons (empty)
Type 61 tank: ??? metric tons

Presuming the Type 61 is constructed from comparable material as the Zaku, how much should the Type 61 weigh? What does this strength about the weight ratio between the U.C. construction material and modern day construction material?
