Look at how they replace Ryo Shiba in the new Dancougar. Same case here.

Oh man....Suzuoki... *sob*

But indeed, this year is the year of Super Robot remakes/sequels

SRW @3 anyone? (Jeeg, Raideen, Dancougar were all in @3 )

I never watched the original Jeeg, but I came to know it through SRW, so it'll be interesting to see this sequel.

I think this is a conspiracy to fuel Terada with more mecha series to add to his next SRW

I actually atched the old "Steel Jig" series (in the Philippines, it was spelled "JIG" as in jigsaw). Not sure what to make of this, since my Super Robot Fandom died when I first discovered Mobile Suits But yeah, I might take this into consideration if it's done the same way as Shin Getter.

Though I do miss the main character transforming into an armored, human-sized warrior. Part of the coolness was in that.

Well, the opening theme for Shin Jeeg, titled [STORMBRINGER] is announced at the main page.

The bad? (( at least for Shinndou )) They're not reusing the catchy "badamdamdamdamdam" theme of the original JEEG.

The good? It's a new song.

The awesome? (( though somewhat predicatable )) IT'S JAM FREAKING PROJECT!!!!

Having watched the original series a lot when I was a kid (showed in Italy till the '90s) I have to disagree, I think that was the part I didn't like much.
Having said that, I hope they don't stick too close to the original idea as it is a bit old now.
I'm curious as how they'll pull the main villain in as

Well yeah, it would have been sweet if they kept the original song, but I guess that a new song (and I do like JAM Project) might work as well as long as it conveys the same "badass" feeling.

Also this seems to be more like a sequel than a real remake anyways. I'm still looking forward to this, I'm even counting the days! Haha.

maybe STORMBRINGER will be something like a SUPER SPIRIT INSPIRE remake of the original song?

The main page had major updates. When I don't know. I haven't been checking out the unaired websites lately.

Looks like the series will be really interconnected with the prequel then. Is that Miwa, Senjirou/Machine Father and the Queen I see right there? My memory's vague, but hurray nostalgia. Not to mention unless I read that wrongly, there's a mention of a cyborg function in the Jeeg section that's replaced with the bike-head instead. Almost screaming the return of Hiroshi if you ask me.

And looks like Ichiro "ANIKI" Mizuki will be involved in JAM Project's Stormbringer OP for this new JEEG. Awesomeness.

Jam Project doing the OP? They're bringing out all the good stuff here.

I hope they don't do the monster of the week formula here. I don't think they will though, that kind of died in the 80's. It made a lot of super robot shows unbelievably boring and repetitive for me such that I didn't even bother finishing a lot of them. The only time a show has been monster of the week and rocked is GaoGaiGar and thats because they occasionally switched things up. Apparently Mazinger Z did the same thing, but with shows like Godmars and Voltes V its always Mars Flash ----> Final God Mars or Tenkuken Hissatsu Choudenji V NO JIIIIIIIIIIIGIIIIIIIIIIIIRIIIIIIIIIIIIIII! Get's old kind of quick even if the overall story is solid.

GaoGaiGar used the MotW formula as well.
Dendoh too.
it depends mostly HOW it's done-

But I don't think they'll use it here... anyway they MUST explain me HOW THE HELL Senjiro Shiba is still alive, he was killed in the first episode and his Machine Father alter-ego exploded in the last battle!

Tsubaki is Miwa's grandaughter, btw^:^

Having seen the first episode, I can say basically the staff retconned (to use a comics term) the second half of the original series, which basically never happened.

Spoiler:

Quality wise the episode offered good animation though almost all the bike chase scenes were done in CG with mixed results, sometimes it seems to look at a toy. Jeeg's build up (also shown in the OP) is nicely done. There is a notable drop off in animation in the last two minutes though for no apparent reason.
JAM Project's OP, STORMBRINGER, while not good as other songs it's nice and definitely catchy. Nothing to say against the ED.
Still too early to say what will happen but I'm curious.

Show seems good. I like the comical character designs. However, I think gurren is a cooler robot than jeeg.

Second episode was pretty awesome. The shows keeps its super robot show style, so of course that makes it win-win in my books. Also, how the hell can you beat a captain who's female, eye-patch & a sword. Sorry, but you can't. <3

Also Ono Daisuke plays the role of Kenji perfectly.
