Any Shinigami no Ballad vibes would be a good thing. I like the art style. The director (Satou Tatsuo) directed Stellvia and Tokyo Tribe 2. The writer (Okouchi Ichirou) who adapted this for anime, did Code Geass and Negima!?

And Ueda Kana and Matsuoka Yuki are both made of win.

Judging from the trailer, I'll probably enjoy this a lot more than Shinigami no Ballad (obviously there are comparisons all over the place.. white haired loli delivering last messages etc.). Cause I actually went into that one with average expectations, and was, well, disappointed.

The seiyuu are a bonus. Both aren't too mainstream but still very good at what they do (and damn moe).
Will-watch. Next season's totally all-out bishoujo..

Just watched the trailer and it sparked my interest.
The "silent" mood is quite like shinigami no ballad but I hope it won't be as episodic. (Not that I didn't like it but too much is bad for one lifetime ^^).

Ueda Kana as Fumika... Fumika seems the quiet, level-voiced Nagato Yuki type character, so I'll be looking forward to listening to this. I only know the lively side of Ueda Kana (Yumi, Sakuya, Hayate, etc.)

Judging from the PV, Shigofumi seems quite different from Shini-bara, Shini-bara for the most part maintains an rather muted point of view, shifting from one group of people to another*. Momo might give a word of advice or a reminder, and step back. Fumika in Shigofumi on the other hand, seems like a more active protagonist.

* The anime was way to short to do Shini-bara justice. Shini-bara is a catalouge of people coping with death, and their lives after the incident. The anime pretty much moves on after the "death" part. The book, however, repeatedly returns and gives the readers an update, helping us be more emotionally attached to them.

I just had a hunch when I saw the title's torrent for the promo trailer at the ?????.

I decided to give it a try and downloaded the whole trailer.

I definitely liked what I saw. This anime looks to be a sort of supernatural-drama, emphasizing on the drama aspects but using the afterlife as a vehicle in a real-life setting.

Count me in, particularly since for some strange reasons Fumika to me reminds me of Negima!? Chachamaru, but that's just me.

BTW, I made a little research on Shigofumi.

The first episode will be accurately airing on January 5th, 2008.

Also, that #ainex plans to sub this title.

Hmmm. Looks interesting enough to warrant the 3-episode trial, at least.

On the plus side:
  • ShiniBara vibes (it's nice to occasionally watch anime about deeper subjects than pantsu)
  • Ueda Kana
  • The haunting music in the full-length promo
On the minus side:
  • ShiniBara vibes (I hope this show can find its own identity)
  • Shouta's character design (he has Weak Face Syndrome, common to young males in anime)
Overall I'm looking forward to it.

Yeah, it was really really good and not a Shinigami no Ballad clone at all, though... yeah... hard to talk about without being somewhat spoilery. High production values all around and I love the direction/scoring. Almost reminds me of Shaft's stuff more than the usual JCStaff, though they did manage to sneak in a few thigh shots. It wouldn't be JCStaff without some ogling of the leg meat.

Caps if you're a heartless bastard and don't care about having your experience spoiled.

Wow, this is no Shinigami no Ballad, but episode 1 certainly got me waiting for the next episode.
Spoiler for Episode 1:

Also, Fumika and the staff (Kana-something, I think) make a good pair. Definitely looking like a good series.

Edit; By the way, web radio is available at this site. Web personalities are Ueda Kana (Fumika) and Asano Masumi (Chiaki). Ueda Kana should be good (missed her since Marimite web radio is on hold). Not sure who Asano Masumi is (or her character Chiaki, for that matter).
