Yeah, MakubeX2 told us about it at Kodomo no Jikan manga thread.

If anime series starts in July then the OVA will be released before series is finished, a kind of lost episode like MakubeX2 said.
Hmm, things that they can't put in tv-series.

I'm going to jail for this...

Likewise for Shindou, she does not have any siginificant role for me to date.

Kadowaki had voiced Illya from F/SN and some other rori roles before, so I have no problem of her doing another one.
oh boy...soo young @_@ *must clean brain with hot soapy water* and Kadowaki is going to find her role quite natural :3

Just keep telling yourself, "The story sounds very intriguing. The plot sounds interesting. Unclean thoughts about third-graders should not be prevalent in my brain."

Apparently the impending North American release of Kodomo No Jikan known as Nymphet has been pulled due to consumer (and Jesus') complaints.

Here's the relevant ANN article:

It hasn't been pulled as far as I can tell... but the Sevenseas people are explaining the situation to their vendors and allowing anyone to back out who feels nervous.

I'm unaware of any serious consumer complaints or actions by any witchburning groups --- but Sevenseas is aware they *could* take some flack so they are covering their bases with the above action.

I get an Internal Server Error when I try your link, Kaioshin ... but ANN has never been a very reliable news service in my opinion. There's an official press release from the president of Sevenseas on the matter but I don't have the link handy.

((off to do some research on it))

edit: what I did find over at ANN over the matter is mostly full of shit (--- the author of it (Answerman) is one of their least reliable sources and is known to be particularly anti-moe/loli ... bluntly, he's a jerk. There *is* controversy but mostly just speculation about some vendors getting nervous -- worst case this ends up being an online order only item I guess.
(((I adjusted that sentence to reflect what the link was pointing to ... what I found independently was a lot of 'Answerman' garbage)))

Here's the official quote from the president of Seven Seas:

Quote:
I wanted to address the controversy related to our upcoming release of NYMPHET.

There have been several heated online debates about this title, mainly about whether or not it is suitable to be released in the US. Many fans are eagerly awaiting its release and we have received a large number of emails to attest to this fact, while others on various forums find the content highly objectionable and are opposed to its release.

Specifically, those who are speaking out against NYMPHET seem to be disturbed by the relationship between two characters in the story, namely an elementary school student and her adult teacher. Most people have not yet read NYMPHET, since we haven’t even published it yet, so I would like to clarify an important point: NYMPHET is a story about a mischievous young girl who tries to sexually entrap her teacher. The important context here is that the girl’s advances on her teacher are never reciprocated by him; her teacher is horrified by her actions, and his romantic interest is in fact another adult teacher. The comedy arises out of this young girl saying and doing improper things (much like Crayon Shin-Chan, which is currently being aired on Cartoon Network) and seeing her teacher squirm with discomfort and shock while he struggles to keep his composure, at the same time trying not to make a fool of himself in front of the woman he loves.

In Japan, NYMPHET is a highly popular and successful manga written and drawn by a female creator for an older teen male audience. It is published in Futubasha’s weekly seinen magazine COMIC HIGH. It is not considered pornographic by any means, and Japanese would be shocked to hear this sort of accusation about what they consider to be a mainstream property. In fact, it is so mainstream that it has been turned into an anime program which will be broadcast on Japanese TV starting this July. My personal stance on this title is, if it’s good enough for the Japanese, then it’s good enough for us. I had the opportunity to live in Japan for six years, and so I understand and appreciate their cultural nuances and wacky and often bizarre sense of humor. Based on the angry debates that I have seen online, however, there are people who do not appreciate this sort of material, and while it may be appropriate in Japan, they feel that it is inappropriate for our culture.

Although I do not agree with that point of view, I realize that this issue must be addressed, instead of ignored. As a policy, we at Seven Seas do not believe in altering or “censoring” manga artwork or content, so that approach, which has been taken in the past by others, is out of the question. Instead, despite the fact that we have already received thousands of orders on this title, I have decided to delay its release and to have an open dialogue with the large book chains and other vendors. My intention is to make them fully aware of this debate, familiarize them more fully with the content, and let each of them make the final decision as to whether or not it is appropriate for their stores and their customers -- and then give them the chance to cancel their orders if they wish. In the meantime, I would like to continue the dialogue with fans or others who are seriously concerned about this issue, and will be keeping my eyes and ears open to the discussion.

As always, our intention at Seven Seas is only to publish high quality manga that appeal to our readers and fans. After all, we’re manga fans ourselves.

Jason DeAngelis
President

The ANN post is the same press release that was posted in the Kodomo no Jikan manga thread. It says nothing of being "pulled."

Personally, if there's some big issue, make it only available for sale online where a credit/debit card is required. If anything, the controversy will only help boost sales in "certain" demographics.

Ah... its working now... yeah that's just the press release in the linkage. What I found independently were some "Answerman" diatribes on the manga and anime along with a lot of name-calling and factually broken data. I adjusted the previous post to reflect that.

Where is the ANN article written by Answerman. All I can find is the press release.

Here's his last uninformed and misleading rant on the subject
http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/answerman/2007-05-18
about halfway down the page. He alludes to an earlier "lolicon war" at the site which I followed for a bit until I got too annoyed to read more. Basically he damns it without a clue about its content.

I guess the domain name "anime news network" causes me to have a certain level of expectation about what they do. Unfortunately, with the broken state of "news" in general today, they may not understand what good news reporting means anymore

Give them all the validity of Inside Edition or the Star in reporting serious news

I believe there are two possible causes for this press release by Seven Seas.

The first one may have been Zac Bertschy trolling the crap out of them with his last Answerman column in his typical "anime is for cool people; Escaflowne rocks; pedos, stay away" style. I read his column because he does offer *some* insight about the american anime industry, but whenever he starts talking niché anime, he turns into Holy Jesus himself. It's probably been a while since I haven't replied in the post-Answerman discussion threads on their forum where I'd suggest him or one of his colleagues to quit the biz.

The second one may be more likely--Seven Seas are effectively creating buzz to boost their future sales. If that's truly the case, I have to applaud them; they did good.

AnimeNewsNetwork is a business driven mostly by ad revenues. When content by itself doesn't suffice anymore, you either have to cover various controversial news or alter news so it draws in more visitors. The following (hidden in the spoiler tag) is what dormcat, one of their "senior" encyclopedist volunteers had to tell about the very people he helps with finding news and updating their encyclopedia.
Spoiler for PM discussion:

<shrug> nice stuff in the PM O.o .... so they're proudly clueless
And they don't even serve "average American anime watchers" ... they serve a specific group (i.e. people like them). I think many "North Americans" would be gagging right about now.

I already try to avoid giving them hits and usually recommend to people to avoid them for the same reasons. Maybe if they provided useful news I might think differently (Why does "Most Trusted" sound a lot like "fair and balanced" ..... oh Orwell)

Well, I'd initially dismissed this show and manga out of hand after reading the description and the controversy.

However, after reading more about it, and reading some manga pages... I still won't be following it. While this may be primarily humor driven, the sexual innuendo and imagery is clearly a huge part of it.

I can see where there is more to this than merely pandering to the lolicon market, especially since it is written by a woman. However, the lolicon market is clealry being pandered to, nonetheless. While the teacher character certainly wants nothing to do with his problems, it's really not any different from a young male character in the typical harem story, and there's innuendo-filled imagery outside of that context, too. (I personally could do without said imagery in any context, but I freely admit that I'm a prude.)

A series on this subject matter could either pique my interests in particular or be extra-disturbing for me, because I volunteer with children in situations where I have to be VERY careful about my reputation and also watch out for signs of abuse (one of which is such precocious behavior). This falls solidly into the "disturbing" camp for me.

This is something I've noticed for some time, myself, and I became especially disillusioned when the Answerman slammed Kanon and completely misinterpreted and misrepresented "moe" more recently.
It has driven me further in my pursuit to build an alternative. (In fact, I think I'll go ahead and post regarding that on the General forum.)

So now ICv2 is reporting, just a day after the Seven Seas press release...
Quote:
Seven Seas Entertainment has decided not to publish its American edition of Nymphet. Seven Seas president Jason Deangelis told ICv2 that the company had decided "...it's not appropriate for Seven Seas to publish Nymphet," and that it would cancel its release of the manga.
This either stinks or smells. I have a hard time believing the publisher would change his mind about this whole issue in a single day. I don't think he could've contacted every single distributor in such a short period of time, either. Someone's going to burn; either Seven Seas or ICv2.

Well I probably wasn't going to buy the manga anyway, but this sounds like a really quick and poorly thought out decision that will damage Seven Seas reputation overall with fans AND retailers (for the likely precautions they will take against SS for their own silly and arguably insecure reasons).

At least there's still the anime on the way though.

With the manga in limbo and supposedly dead in the west. What are the chances of the anime being licensed should it stay faithful to the source ?

And it's very surprising that 50 years after the publication of Lolita, people are still as closed minded as ever. I guess this is a case of the more things changed, the more they stay the same.

Lolita has been accepted as a literary classic. But KnJ, a tamed spiritual successor, has been shoted down before it's release.

But Lolita is only letters, therefore, it MUST be art!

This one has weird pictures, so it must be EVIL!
