Actually, nowhere in the game does it say the illusionary world scenes are dreams, much less dreams seen by Tomoya. Although many of the themes observed within that world are metaphorical references to the actual events happening to our main characters in the real world, the illusionary world scenes are independent from the main story.

What the illusionary world is really about:

So far, Nojima Kenji-san has been announced as Tomoya's VA for both the drama CDs and the movie, so there's a good chance he'll be on board for the TV series as well.

Sugita Tomakazu? Would they do you think? If they did it would prove once and for all that they have some sort of contract with him.

Sugita's not going to fit Tomoya this time round. My bet's on Nojima Kenji, who's been hired for the drama CDs as well as the movie (recently announced). You may know him as Tohno/Nanaya Shiki from MELTY BLOOD.

I'd actually bet against him, given KyoAni's history of changing the male lead seiyuu in Key works.

Not likely. He was Yukito in Air. Good guess, though.

I'd still go for Nojima Kenji, though.

Well, if Sugita can have 2 recents roles (Kanon and Haruhi) then Ono (Air, Haruhi) can take on another role too. Besides, he felt like a delinquent more as Yukito than Kenji did as Shiki (Tsukihime), Hameln (Otogi Jushi Akazukin), Kuze (Kanon 2k6) or Sho (Guyver) imo. His voice didn't get low enough for me.

For some reason,i was hoping for Takashi Kondo(Ralph Werec from Soukou no Strain),his rought voice fits a deliquient. But instead, its Kenji Nojima who was voicing Yuuna Roma Seiran from Gundam Seed Destiny.

Personally, I was thinking Tomokazu Seki, but most of my guesses are usually far-out, anyway.

But really, why Tomokazu Seki, who did the hapless Kitagawa in Kanon? Actually, when I thought about him, I was thinking more of his performances as Yzak Joule from GSD, and Takahashi Keisuke from Initial D.

Sounds delinquent enough for me.

Not to sound like a fanboy, but seeing as how I've already been impressed three times in a row by them, I am admittedly looking forward to this CLANNAD adaptation as well as the movie. Like the case with AIR and Kanon, I've never been exposed to the original game (bar the four vocal songs), so I know next to nothing about it. I hope I'll be able to enjoy this new story as well.

As much as I love MoriMori and MikiShin I think their voices are too mature for a school boy. (just had a quick look at their Fuyu No Semi OVA 2 this moring...ahem...anyway that's a different story)

The first drama CD is due out on April 25, and the release schedule is one per month (so far I see 4 listed already).

CD ドラマCD CLANNAD-クラナド- Vol.1 古河渚

I use Animate's web site for checking cd release schedules:

Perused through most of this thread, and I'm impressed how everybody's keeping the plot under wraps!

Having seen both Air and Kanon, I ended up preferring Air for various reasons. A big one though was the "epicness" factor - Air was more ambitious story-wise. I mean, it still sends chills to my spine when I see the intro tagline, "The 1000th Summer". Kanon had bits of supernatural and fantasy elements sprinkled about, but Air took it to a new level, and that really enhanced the drama for me.

So with that said, can I expect Clannad to be more similar in scope to Air or Kanon? No spoilers please, as keeping myself uninformed before seeing Air and Kanon gave me good results. I'll watch it regardless of the response obviously, just want to know if I should be excited, or REALLY excited.

On a related note, it's great to finally know what the source material was for the game I've been playing!

(What a coincidence, my first exposure to Air was through Airrade)

@ outlaw97

Clannad is an epic story.

To put it simply, if you look at Kyoani Kanon and how that ended, that's like half of Clannad's scope.

The great thing about Clannad is how it progresses far far more into the future of the lifes of the people involved in the story unlike many bishoujo anime where the story just stops more or less at the confessions. As the theme of Clannad is "family", Key went to great lengths at writing exactly that - generations of families.

Compared to Kanon and AIR, CLANNAD is more similar to Kanon in regards to hocus-pocus, but more similar to AIR in epic scope.

I'd say CLANNAD is longer than Kanon and AIR combined.

I liked the Manga's version of the two as well... Probably the only oversight about CLANNAD was not having 'designs' for those the 2nd graders, especially since some scenes involving them are significant. Asides from the typical "teacher" char in games... kinda nice if every other char at least had some image.

Guess that in a sense gives artistic freedom like in the manga.

Really?

And here I was thinking that while Kanon is a relatively lightly-flavoured 'pioneer' of the trademark KEY hocus-pocus, and AIR was an epic that took lessons from the success of its predecessor, CLANNAD is the one that just went right over the edge, hocus-pocus wise......

Don't mind me, I'm just a newbie to CLANNAD. Heck, all I know about it is what I've read from the Wiki article (which thankfully, gives nothing away in terms of spoilers).

And as for me.....I'm casting my preliminary vote for Tomoyo as well. Tomoyo 64 for t3h w1n!!!

Sad thing is Tomoyo is one of the characters most likely will get shafted during the conversion.

I had an interesting though recently - what if they took the Tomoyo route from Clannad and combine it with Tomoyo After and make a spin-off stand alone series base on these materials?
