Hmm, but telling people where to find raws is OK? That's why I thought it was allowed in the first place. o.O

Actually, I think it isn't either, just that no mod's been floating around in this section of the Wild Wild West the forums. I dunno. Use PM or something? I'm sounding like a bloody backseat driver now so I'm outta here.

Still, no one has answered my question. Why is there a sub of ep4 without a sub of ep3? What the hell were they smoking?! :3

Um...maybe they counted the Bakeneko arc as the first 3 eps and thought that it was actually part of Mononoke?

I'm already up to episode 3 and I'm loving it.

The Medicine Seller is badass.

Now I really want to check out Ayakashi. :/

So...Im a bit confused..

It seems like everyone didnt tell the Umibozu the truth cept the two monks since they didnt have the hallucinations...but I cant believe MS had a hallucination as well. That kinda blew me away.

Still the give and take btwn MS and Kayo in the first part of the epi was classic

They were actually telling an umizatou their fears, not an umibouzu. They were shown their fears regardless of whether they were telling the truth or not if the object of fear was not immediately present (Kayo's fear was a subconscious one so she wasn't lying per se, for example). Sougen said Genkei was his greatest fear, so the umizatou did not have to show him an extra copy. Genkei said he feared his sister aboard the utsurobune, so the umizatou brings it to him (the departure from the norm being it wasn't just an illusion directed to a specific individual, although we can haggle about this point later on re. the subjective nature of reality). Kayo remarks that this must have been what the MS had been aiming/waiting for.

As for umizatou, it means umi (sea) + zatou. Zatou were itinerant blind monks who typically played the biwa (Japanese lute) for alms during the middle ages and early modern times. The youkai version was said to walk around the sea's surface, frightening fishermen and capsizing ships if his question was not answered truthfully.

Ah you know after I wrote Umibozu in my post I thought...wait thats not right but I couldnt think of what the actual name was. Thanks for clairfying.
Ok I get the explanation now, it didnt occur to me that bringing the utsurobune up was part of it since it happened after the UmiZatou disappeared (I think, you know for just watching this Im feeling very forgetful over what happened)
Also I agree with Kayo, I dont want to know what Genousai was eating XD

The title of this arc is Umibouzu the crature which appeared was umizato . This arc the story has picked up . The tale is well created with each chracter adding a distinct flavor to it . I am left wanting more, intially the designs and art felt odd but now I have gotten used to it . It adds to the style than standing out or distracting

Don't worry, episode 7 is extremely hard to understand even if you are perfectly fluent in Japanese... On the other hand, I don't think this series is made so that everything fits neatly. That's why I love it.

/me is curious to read runpsicat's notes for the Nopperabou story.

upto epi 5

I love this show. Other than its unique and gorgeous art and animation (plus the haunting and beautiful soundtrack) I particularly love the concept of 'form, truth and regret'. I think it pretty much summaries the essence behind the horror genre. Of course I have few minor gripes. Like how sometimes background is too vibrant and characters don't stand out as much, or how that gay monk looks and sounds funny in more serious moments. But they're such trivial matters that it doesn't take away anything from the powerful moments. Although I wonder if the medicine seller (what the hell is his name) could flesh out more, since most of the impact comes from the fear of the unknown behind the form, horror of our ugliest vices behind the truth, and the soaring beauty of human spirit behind the regret.

I also wonder if I should stop now and watch Ayakashi before continuing, as I was quite lost on what Ayakashi was when they started talking about it. Plus, the medicine guy and the girl obviously comes from the previous story.
