I'm thinking about watching the first 21 episodes of the original series done by Frenchies before moving on to this, but not sure.

you can totally skip watching the 1983 series because Road to Dream summarizes nicely the old series (if i remember right the first 25 episodes is the summary of the 1983 version), you wont miss anything important on the story

but if you got a lot of time then why not watch the 1983 series too its good to but be prepared on slow pacing as most old series are like that
