Mai Otome OVA 3

I thought it was okay, though I agree that they could have gone without the fanservice. Now that I've complained, what I liked:

Spoiler for All of it:

1. Shizuru being missed... though when did they find her?
2. Nao's banter with Nina and her fight, that was quite well done
3. Nina's scream when Nao was 'stoned' - epic
4. Fuuka Gakuen? Certainly looks like it
5. Kagutsuchi! (I hope) Maybe we'll see more Childs?

Overall, 7/10 in my book.

Wow i just saw it (with subtitles). At first i thought MO was just an AU to MH with lots of recycled materials but these ova might prove wrong. Its really getting intresting, but knowing sunrise the last one is either gonna be rushed or be left unresovled.

Why is there a Miyu, Natuski, Mai, etc. on the planet? If you can accept that the same characters are in both series, without being the same people, why not places, too?

Also, this isn't the first time we have seen "Otome-Fuuka". At the end of the original Mai Otome, Miyu dove into the lake and entered the building while it was still submerged, to use the equipment hidden there to allow all the otome in the world to freely active their own robes without their masters certifications for the final battle.

There is just one major problem that I can't solve; I simply can't assume they are just separate buildings that happens to look the same, especially since the railings inside it at the end of MO had ribbons tied to them.

Until they could come up with a satisfactory explanation for the ribbons being there, I am going to assume the two buildings are one and the same.

Just watched OVA 3.

Quick summary:

Spoiler for OVA:

- Liked the fanservice. Very much It's always been a integral part of MO.
- Got dissapointed that Nina is still an Otome
- Didn't like the Nina's drama scene when Nao got shot. They overdid that.
- Loved MO/MH connections. Moar, wut!

Acutally, the Ribbon-chan's praise was more pointless than the whole fanservice thing ;]

As for Fuka Gakuen - I'm a bit confused now. Okay, we had one during the end of TV series, but what's the point of showing another Fuka-like room in totally different place? I really hope Sunrise will explain it all to me, or I'll get angry...

Overall, this OVA was good. Not as good as the first one, but much better than second one.

Its one of those thing the creators of the series never come out and confirm one way or the other, so we can look at it either way. For my view of the series, I still say that if we can have duplicate characters I don't see a problem with duplicate buildings (or duplicate ribbons, either).

When we see the cocoon like thing I think we can see his eye inside of it. It certainly looks like him. Fumi-thing also summons something that looks suspiciously like his sealing sword.

It might be possible, after seeing Midori's Gakutenou appear a few times in the TV series. I'd still prefer to have just Kagutsuchi added to the OVA. Anymore, and it just looks messy and wierd.

You've got me a little wrong.

I didn't mean Nina's feelings. I understand them very well.
The point is, they overdid the "direction". You know, the camera movement, zoom, short pause before the scream.. also, the voice itself - it all sounded and looked too cheesy for me. I don't know if you understand me, but I can't explain it well. It's the matter of impression that the scene made on me.

That's the another reason why I love MH - it's incredibly well directed and the characters' feelings are shown perfectly (just watch Mai - scenes with her anger, sadness, confusion... they're excellent).

No, i got the point right , and the voice was best on them, greatest "NOOOOOO" ever.

How's cameo as an answer for you? Final Fantasy Tactics made shitloads of references to other games in the FF franchise but that doesn't mean they're canon right?

It's not a "cameo" if it is getting entangled in the main plotline, which it clearly has in the latest ova episode. If FFT had given Cloud his own arc in the story and had vital roles in the politics of the war, then yes one has to wonder if he was the same Cloud as FF7.

So yeah, the ribbons wouldn't have been more than a creative touch as long as the building itself isn't important in the story. But now it IS important.

A few things -

Was that door that Nao and Nina opened similar to, if not the "same" (In design & relative location) to the door that Mashiro and Nagi entered at the end of Mai-HiME? I can't remember, and I don't have a working R2 DVD player at the moment to check it out.

Wasn't the key used to open the door to the "treasure room" the same key used by Midori to unlock the door to the... pod, or whatnot that contained Miyu around the end of HiME? (I don't remember the episode, sorry)

and, my first crazy theory - In advance, sorry for the scatter-brainedness of the hidden paragraph.

Spoiler for Mai Otome Zwei OVA 3 crazy theory:

Unlike the previous appearances of the Fumi-shade-thing, she did not "wake up" this episode because of an Otome materialising. She woke up when the door was opened. So, my crazy theory, is that maybe, Fumi intended to destroy the "guardian" of the book room, not Nina & Nao who opened the door to it. I think this because the thing she changed in to what appears to be Kagutsuchi's sword was the weapon the Guardian wielded. Of course, once Fumi arrived at the room, and there was a column's gem for the stoning/absorbing/whatever (I like to think absorbing, because since she has stoned more and more otome, she has become more and more humanoid and detailed.) so she had to attempt to take it. Soemthign to note could be that until Nina tried to interfere, Fumi did not really even notice her. This theory is full of holes, but it's the best I can come up with at the moment, I hope it can encourage some discussion
