Windows meda player videos too dark

Please Help, I have just recently reformated my computer and reinstalled windows meda player 9. The player will play videos and sound but the video is very dark as if there is almost no color. I installed the CCCP codec pack but that did little for it.

The best I can get it to do is very dim video even though my screen is set to bright and adjusting the settings on the player just makes it more white. My only succesful combination is setting the windows meda player to high quality and using only ffdshow.

I am I missing a certain codec or is some player setting off? also the best way to descibe the way the video looks would be if you were to wear sunglasses while watching anyvideo.

Edit: please lock this thread I solved the problem it was a problem with the graphic card settings

your overlay values in your video card driver config are messed up. control panel -> display -> settings -> advanced. From there, find the controls for brightness/contrast etc etc and set to defaults.
