The main difference in Eve compaired to other games I have tried is that you loose pretty much everything when you die.
So people tend to be a bit strategic when they figth.

Another difference is that the pvp is pretty unlimited, so people who like 1 vs 1 figthing and level restrictions will be dissapointed.

I dont do arena's, never did like it... but i do do raids and tbh even though it requirs more thought than say questing, grinding, battleground etc after a few runs like 3 max it almost second nature and requirs no thought.. guess thats the what makes WoW so popular.. its so simple a 10 year old can play it ... and they do ...alot of them ... which most of the time is bad thing unfortunatly. lots of arguing on trade channel, u will NEVER go an hour without seeing trade turin into a ffa 'ur mum' insult session.

However eve is the opposite. You cant just jump onto it for an hour .. unless ur gunna go mine ..which is boring . Eve is hugly complicated compared to WoW but once you get used to it it can feel ..limited... mostly pvp and mission running.. and pvp will always be blob warfar ( 20 - 500 vs 20 - 500 ..or what usually happens 500 Vs 1 )

Ether way go for Eve if u want a serious MMORPG ..and WoW if you want somthing that wont stress you out ( unless ur affected by 10 year olds shouting and screeming at each other)

If you're looking for an rts then Myth 2: Soulbighter is pretty incredible. It's from the makers of Halo (Bungie) and came out in 1998, but still looks great. It's different from most rts's in that it doesn't require mining, farming, building, or making/creating anything else; you start each game with a set amount of units and that's all you get to kill the enemies. Most multiplayer ffa games last 8 minutes and most big team games are eight vs eight and last 8-14 minutes.

Multiplayer is fairly competitive even though the community is pretty small. There's a team tournament (7v7) going on right now called Myth World Cup 08 with 24 teams and an $800 cash prize for first place. At the moment you can join existing teams but registration ends Thursday or Friday of next week I think.

Here's a vid of gameplay from the first week of the tournament, different unit colours means different teams:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDxHzmR2mrs
quality isn't too good being from youtube and most of the vid has the game speed sped up.

If you're interested in the game PM me for me info.

A friend of mine and me, are going to try out the 14 day trial of EVE. It really seems kind of fun. Kind of reminds me of the old game: Freelancer.
Are there any game similar to Ceasar IV?
Recently I've been seeing some games, that the developer are offering them free; for example Psiops. Does anyone else knows about more games like this?
I have been playing Rohan and its quite good. This week is double the item drop rate.

Ah EVE...now this is one serious hobby. It's a great pvp MMO that doubles up as a social and economic simulator. Since all EVE players play on the same "server", the game ends up having a very rich player history with incredible stories to tell. I'm still playing it 3+ years later running a 100+ mercenary organization.

Where's Dark Shikari when you need him? I'm sure he has some great tales to tell.

Just play dota... that is all you need. roughly 1 hour per game and you can quit whenever you want. Haha... It's the only game I play right now.

The wake of starcraft 2 and diablo 3 may change that though...

Galactic Civilizations, maybe?

Heck, if you want it more RTS like, there's Sins of the Solar Empire, while a more complicated turn based one would be Lost Empires: Immortals.

BTW, welcome to the 4x genre, my favourite genre for PC gaming, which alas is also starting to die a slow death. >_>

As long as you don't quit during a match, yeah.

Lost empires main site is here...

It's actually the newest entry to the 4x genre AFAIK, released in '07 IIRC. Hard to find the actual copy in stores (I specifically had to ask the guy on the counter if they had it, and they had it in the back room, not on the display floor), but the DL copy is only 20 bucks I think.

Here, a better explanation on wikipedia:

Defense of the Ancients (often referred to as DotA) is a custom scenario for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, based on the "Aeon of Strife" map for StarCraft. The objective of the scenario is to destroy the opponents' "Ancient". The two teams' ancients are heavily guarded structures at opposing corners of the map. Players use powerful units known as heroes, and are assisted by allied heroes and AI-controlled fighters called "creeps". As in role-playing games, players level up their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the mission.[

And more....

It's fun to play with groups of friends in Lan Game cafe (especially when you can turn on the volume and listen when it scream "First Blood" or " Legendary"....). The AI of the map is quite smart if comparing to most of other PCs games so you can try them to improve your skills. Back then, I'm quite a noob at that so used to join my brother and his girlfriend to play against 5 SuperAI, lost more than win
...some games last for even more than 3+ hours ....

Correction, DotA is the ONLY thing WC3 was good for. I mean, who plays ladder games (official WC3 battle games) nowadays? I'd wager there's at least 5 times more people playing DotA than there are playing ladder on WC3.

Of course, I'd rather much prefer the more team focused Tides of Blood, but that game sorta died when the original crew who made it moved on.

DotA is very team orientated when played competitively.

Besides the campaign, you mean. I agree though that ladder was boring.
The sad thing about DotA is it's horrible community.
If you wan't to play without leavers you'll have to join one of several groups. It's rarely on a higher level than pug games, but people act like elitist jerks anyway and put pressure on you. If you want to play for fun, you'll have to deal with leavers or other kinds of idiots.
Let alone the fact that i need 30 mins+ to find a pub -apem game. Either it's:

-ger only (i'm from switzerland, so i can speak german. But since i'm NOT from germany i get kicked)
-nordic only (...)
-rus only (....)
-or i get kicked because they think [CH] stands for China instead of Confoederatio Helvetica)
-or the mode is simply not available

Also, i enjoyed tag-maps like sheep tag, tree tag etc.
Oh, i remember tides of blood, though i wasn't really good at it.

If you like challenging scrolling shooters, try downloading some of the Touhou games. 11 games, 6 levels each, and bullet hell. I think 7 and 11 are the best.
