avi playback problem

Recently i got this problem where my avi files will work but the top right corner will be 'frozen'. Like, the anime will continue playing, but when the scene changes, the very first frame will be stuck in the top corner, while the rest of the screen continues to playback like normal.

I don't think it's a fansub problem because it happens with heaps of avi files from all different fansubbers. I have CCCP installed and i use zoomplayer to watch my anime. The CCCP version is pretty old, but it's not like avi isn't. Never had this problem before.

It screws up with:

[a.f.k.]Lucky Star 1-10.avi
[otacon]Seto no Hanayome 10-11.avi

Why don't you try upgrading CCCP, then? I'm not very encoding-savvy, but if it happens with specific files, it might just be an encoding setting incompatibility.

Okay i upgraded. It hasn't fixed it.

I did find out something new though. I had 4 episodes of Dennou Coil and 2 of them was .avi. I watched those episodes without playback problems as recently as 2 days ago. Now when i watch them, it suffers from the same problem as other .avi files. It seems like something changed on my system causing all .avi files to screw up.

Actually i just put some old anime on in .avi format and it screws up too. This means that i did something and it screwed up my .avi file playback. The only thing i can recall doing is installing new graphic card drivers.

Is it possible for that to do it? I can't think of anything else.

I'll test this by installing the latest CCCP on my other computer and watching some .avi files on it.

Get the CCCP Insurgent tool from the CCCP website. Go under Tools -> Test Render and select a file that isn't working, and post the resulting log here please.

/me thinks that Haali is being used for splitting AVI files

Check for this under CCCP in your Start Menu -> Settings -> and make sure that AVI is unchecked (either on the first or second page, I don't remember now) and hit Apply. Try to play one of the files again and see if it still happens...

Nah, i remember the box for haali splitter for .avi is unchecked. I was about to turn it on to see if it made any difference until i found that all my .avi files were stuffed.

Yep, i'll do that insurgent tool thing. Thanks.

I also tested teh same .avi files on my old computer with old CCCP and they worked fine. Which means that it's not the codecs, or the anime that's stuffing up.

I hope it's not the graphic display drivers ;(

Nvidia 8800? Go into FFDShow Video Decoder Config and in the bottom left locate Output. Check YV12 on. This should fix the upper right corner lag issue.

The reason you don't see the problem on your other machine is because it has a smrt video card which can properly handle YUY2 video. Newer cards are apparently getting more retarded. The YV12 option will be on by default in the next CCCP release, so you won't have to do anything at all then if you ever do upgrade again.

Woah! I had no idea how you figured i had a 8800 from the settings above, nor do i understand what YV12 is, but i think it works. Cause i had to revert my driver before (cause of the problem) to fix the problem, now with VY12 checked, i reinstalled my latest drivers and it still apparently works fine.

Thanks! That was neat ;D
