My Ordeal...

OK... It's been about 2 days since I finished watching the whole series in a semi all-nighter. I've been bothered with this sense of... loss? Incompletion? Like... when you yearn or someone or something.... or when you loose it... not sure how to describe it.

Well, it was seriously affecting my studies and concentration. I know, anime = VR, not real life, but these damn (good) dramas give you a sense of connection to the characters. I kept telling myself that it's over, everyone's content / happy. But the feeling just wasn't going away... oh... and I had trouble keeping an appetite.

So, while watching "Along Came Polly" tonight @ the movies, I realized why I had that sense of emptiness / lonlieness.

I realized that (Ok... This sounds kinda... Insane? Obsessive?) I was worried for Mitsuki. I guess I felt sorry for her and her obstacles in the anime. I think this was slightly influenced by the fact the anime had a VERY short ending sequence showing the future of everyone. I suppose if they made a few minutes of Mitsuki+Takayuki I wouldn't feel this way.

But ya know... After thinking for awhile, I realized I had the picture of the sad Mitsuki that was protrayed throughout pretty much eps 3 - 14. Once I came to acceptance that Takayuki was gonna care for her, and that she was going to be happy, my worries were gone!

I dunno what you guys are gonna say... I suppose if I went to a "shrink" I'd get plenty of colorful technical terms to describe what I've gone through. But I can finally say I've resolved my feelings and even though I'm still single and yearning for a GF at least I can now move on and get a sense of completion / happiness when thinking of the anime.

Edit/P.S. Thanks to all thread posters who had wonderful and interesting comments to share, reading what you guys had to say about the anime helped me alleviate my worries during my little "sadness attacks."

Oh Loki-kun... you're being mean. If that's the case, I need a guy then. Just finished Full Moon and... I cried for Takuto! Not to mention I cried for Takayuki! So I need a guy badly hahahaha.

Well, umm... I dunno about that one... (when you're feeling depressed isn't the best time to be looking for someone)... but, I might recommend doing like Haruka did, and moving on... but in this case, by watching a new anime series!

For myself personally, I decided to watch Onegai Twins, which I hadn't seen before, and was very happy with it. It was very simple, light-hearted, and cute compared to KGNE, but it was just what I was looking for. There's a ton of other choices out there too... so why not start downloading and watching something new! If you haven't seen Da Capo yet, that's also on my recommendation list.

I sort of felt the same way as you did, FreeJPA, for a while after watching KGNE, which is a testament to the power of the show. My best way to describe the feeling was "unease". I personally don't believe that emotions, even negative ones, are wrong or should be repressed. But, there are a lot more emotions out there; anime, like any entertainment medium, can help us explore them all.

My recommendation: Go play the game and get it all out of your system. Well, it won't really do that, but it'll give you a much more complete experience.

I wonder how Japanese fans, who had been exposed to the game first, thought of the anime's treatment of the characters.

For one thing Haruka and Mitsuki are different. Takayuki as well, but thankfully he's more placated in the anime. As for loki-kun... I think you need to cut down on the soda. ^^

You really need to play the game to get the true feeling for the characters. Of course, you need to at least be able to understand at least a little spoken Japanese. But you don't need to understand a word to realize that game-Takayuki has a fairly potent sex drive. The game tests you to see which way your heart goes in any given situation, which often seems to determine how you behave sexually towards the girls. For instance, if you do the right things -- which often boils down to being descisive in favor of one of the girls -- you will end up having good, straight sex. If you fail to act discisively, you can end up abusing the girls. For instance, there's never an option to "I rape Akane". Wether or not you end up doing so relies, apparantly, on how you deal with Haruka which in turn leads to a chain-reaction of bad events that leads up to you inevitably taking advantage of Akane. That sort of thing. And what you are capable of doing to Akane is actually on the bottom edge of the lowest level of nastiness that you can accomplish with Mitsuki, you are warned

But even nice-Takayuki is more than ready for action in the sack. Oh yeah.

Hehe, thanks for the recommendations people. I think I'll go DL OT/Da Capo now, never seen em.

Well... class signup for second semester's already over... Anyone know a good teaching jap software out there? (yea... I know, they must all suck). But all I'd really need is the Romanji type, since I'll just be listening to the words instead of actually reading the kanji.

Wow... that's a bit, um... intense... I guess I'm glad that the anime use sex a bit more (I dunno if this is the right word) sparingly. That being said, I'm sure the game is very good and well done! But it sure sounds like there are a lot of ways to get a bad ending! On the one hand, I'd love to learn more about the KGNE backstory and all, but this game sounds a bit too intense for me... Well, in any case, I'll need to learn a lot more Japanese before I can attempt it anyways!

Yup, even watching these other shows, you don't forget about KGNE. I second the recommendation of Maburaho also - it's hilarious, and although it seems similar to stuff like Love Hina at first, it still manages to surprise and impress. I haven't been getting into too many action shows these days, but I'm planning on checking some of these others out when I have a chance. My roommate is following Naruto and Chrno Crusade, so maybe one of these days I'll grab them from his computer.

I very well know how the first post feels. I have the same feeling of being unable to concentrate sometimes 'cause Mitsuki pops into my mind. Some dramas are just so well made that there is a definite attachment given to the characters. Obviously this anime was supposed to be a tear jerker, and a very realistic one at that. Something like that is incredibly plausable. I've grown very attached to Mitsuki's character because she's the one who has the most realism to her to make me feel sympathy for her. My girlfriend saw it and has the opposite feelings. She wanted everyone to get killed so they would stop being stupid. So everyone has their own opinion so don't poke at personal matters like "get a girlfriend" even if it's sarcastic. There is almost no way to detect text sarcasm implicitly.

I think the way KGNE was so effective at what they did, was that everything was realistic (ok ok... maybe not how everyone was so hot/cute). The city, jobs, etc. That in turn leads it to be... say, on par with those japanese soap operas... Anyone ever seen Tokyo Love Story? Hehe. But yea, the realistic setting helped immerse the viewers into the story.

Heh, it's cool. I was bothered a little at first, but I've talked to Loki-kun, and he's a pretty nice guy.

YES! College male seeking female comfort!

Definietly not a good campaign slogan

I swear Loki-kun! You need to cut down on the pepsi... besides... that's my precious. ^^ I love pepsi, but it doesn't beat gogo no kocha. You should use AOL Instant Messenger and talk with me!!! Mentar-san takes up most of my online conversations now! I swear he has ulterior motives.
