From mircx:

-Global- We apologize for the earlier outage(s). There appears to be some hardware issues with the main server. We are investigating now and will replace the hardware as necessary. Thank you for your patience.

-Global- We believe we've narrowed down the problem to the primary drive controller. The drive has been temporarily moved to a secondary controller which should hold it until we can get new parts ordered. We should know shortly if that's the cause. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience.

It's up again (or atleast, I'm connected again).

Try the irc2.mircx.com too while trying to connect to the server.

Hey, I have a good idea... what if we take advantage of IRC's multi-server protcol and create a huge IRC "network" with mirror servers all over the world?

It may sound crazy, but...

Fully functional, apart from the fact that the services are down.

And to continue paste the global messages:

211645 [mircx] Global(cjb@mircx.com) Quick update for those on this server... since we had the same problem after switching drive controllers, we did a thorough scan of the drive and found bad sectors... we're cloning the drive now and should (hopefully) have the main server back online within the hour.

215236 [mircx] Global(cjb@mircx.com) Looks like the cloning failed, I guess the drive was too far gone, so we're reinstalling on a fresh drive now and will restore from the nightly backup. I'd estimate this should take another hour or so before it's back up.

So... it'll be back in about 45 mins then...

[22:08] -Global- The system has been reinstalled. We're just finishing some configurations and it'll be back up. ETA 15 minutes.

Update:
[22:59] -Global- Well, the main server is finally back online. The drive in the server had developed bad sectors and despite various attempts to recover or clone the drive, it simply had too many errors. We've reinstalled the system on a fresh drive and restored from backup, so everything should be back up now. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Well that's pretty meaningless. mircx isn't down because it the operator is mean. It is down because he just can't spend that much time to keep it running despite the attacks. A petition is just petulant and whiney. Sending him money is much more likely to get mircx up again.
