Why not just get a domain and use the email services that come with it? With a domain you can have anynameyouwant@yourdomain.com. Domains aren't free, but they're hardly expensive either.

The registrar I use, DirectNIC, is a bit more pricey at $15/yr than places like GoDaddy. But DirectNIC survived hurricane Katrina, and their staff have been very helpful and responsive. If you register a domain there, they'll forward your mail for free. For an extra $10/year you can have a POP3 mailbox.
