Umm... no.

This anime is nothing like Cromartie except for the high school setting. It's a totally different type of comedy in my opinion.

I thought the dog was really out of place. If he's not in the manga that explains it. Unfortunately from the preview it looks like the dog will be featured in lot in episode as well. Urgh.

Yup, that dog was weird and what's up w/ his tail? I don't think that every anime should have a mascot if it isn't necessary. Gokusen is cool but I'm reserving my judgment 'til I see more of it. I'm loving it so far.

I just saw EP 1. I have just 1 question (please restrain yourself from laughing):

what time is this show aired on tv in japan? and is it on like a public channel or cable? the reason I ask is because in EP 1, breasts were shown and I was thinking maybe in future episodes we get to see more echi scenes. man I like the show and all but more echi please <heh heh>. (yes I secretly wished for echi scenes in GTO too....same with cityhunter...)

I don't know about the time, but it's only a torn-out page from a magazine that they drew -- I think that's what you're talking about. It's the one the students used in their little prank.

But that was just a comedy prop, not ecchi. And there were no ecchi themes.

Just say no to ecchi. For the love of God. That crap has ruined so many perfectly fine anime... Used sparingly it can be used to good effect (GTO is a perfect example of this) though when it's gratuitous (example - any m.o.e. show) it just makes me sick.

I can't laugh when someone is merely nursing himself through a solid show like this waiting for panty shots... eeeeeeeyuck!
Anyway, the drooling legions will have to go elsewhere this winter for their kicks - Gokusen is based on a josei manga as was mentioned and does indeed have plenty of actual story to get through.
I wish people would leave the dog alone too. When a character is added to the cast of an anime adaptation it's because there was a real need in the storytelling.

When the storytelling requires a talking dog something has seriously gone wrong.

Can't leave that poor dog alone can you *sigh*

Here's one way to explain the existence of the dog: in the manga a lot of things are "overheard" by the reader but not Yankumi. The story is not really a multi-perspective or multi-thread though; Yankumi is the only "main character." In the anime the dog is around to "snoop" and overhear these same things.

Because I hate him!

I understand why they added him, but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

I like the art, it's more realistic (well, as realistic as anime can be), all the students aren't super good looking like they are in most anime. Of course, this makes Shin even cuter to me. I kind of want Yankumi to end up with him.

The dog.. my only problem with him is the tail! He has a horses tail kind of, it looks like a few hairs. Give him a real dog's tail and I'll be happy.

I enjoyed episode 2. This series is just fun to watch, so I will now be a loyal fan of Gokusen.

Being in the Japanese mafia is also generally considered illegal.

And as long as he's over 16 or something I don't think it's illegal, although she probably would get fired if anyone found out. I think it's pretty likely they might end up together.
