Saturday Morning commercials new and old.....

So, I am sure many people here were huge fans of good old Saturday morning cartoons and some probably still are, but one thing that made satAM cartoons fun and rememberable were some of the great commercials and PSA's from the 80's and early 90's that they used to air. Post some of your favorites here as well as other commercials and PSA's that they used to air that you enjoyed while watching cartoons, I will post some of my favorites once this thread gets going!

Oh the memories!

You mean... like the "brains, frying pan, scrambled eggs" anti-drug PSA?

That was a classic PSA, then they started doing different variations of it and it got stale. Some of my favorite PSA's were the Woodsy Owl ones,"Keeping America looking good" and "Give a hoot, don't pollute" come to mind. I also loved the time for timer PSA's, "You are what you eat", "Sunshine on a stick" and "Hankerin' for a hunk of cheese" were classics! I will post links to them on youtube in a little bit. There were tons of other classics too, like Pee Wee Herman talking about not doing crack, "I learned it by watching you" was a great one as well.

In my area, they'd also play the "Schoolhouse Rock" commercials on Saturday morning as well as afterschool. Some of those were quite amusing.

If I go all the way back to my childhood, I can't think of single commercial that stood out and the sponsors/network hadn't yet quite thought of burying children's heads with commercialism (what? commercials for children? they don't have money!!) So Saturday morning cartoons were generally Looneytoons, Popeye, Tom&Jerry, sometimes live-action 3 Stooges short films. Sometimes they'd be stitched together with a local version of "Krusty the Clown". I can't remember the Saturday presenter but school mornings it was "Cadet Don and his pals" announcing the cartoons and in the afternoon it was a young lady called Kitirik with cartoons and a live studio birthday audience. When my dad was home early, he'd watch her show with me -- later I figured out why (catgirls are meow).

Ah... perhaps that explains my later interest in catgirls and aliens... maybe.

How about some of those classic McDonald's commercials from the 80's such as Ronald playing the McNuggett's in a game of basketball, or the one where Birdie learns how to fly? It's sad that Ronald and pal's are hardly used in McDonald's commercials anymore, Ronald is used rarely, but not nearly enough.
