no, this season has a plot. it's certainly slow moving, but it's there.

though again, I do agree it's taken an extremely long time for a 'boss' of some kind to show up. well, maybe next week. ^_^

The last triple urasai was at season 2 episode 1 when Shana denied her confession to Yuji, right?

... this is what constitutes as plot to you? I'm sorry. You have an ill-defined view on what a plot is. That's not a plot, that's what happens in old Filmation superhero cartoons.

This is especially stupid 'cause
Spoiler for Guess what...:

Perhaps Yuji will be putting his combat skills to the test against Pheles when she arrives. When you face an enemy, it's kill or be killed. There is no exception, especially in his case.

True, they've been going on about that whole thing since season 1 and it's never really gone anywhere, aside from something that was retconned out of existance.

Spoiler:
how is that a spoiler? anyway, it's what the series is built on. (as good or bad as that may be) setbacks happen, much like the training sessions that served as Shana + Yuji's main time together being put on permanent hold this week.

A slow episode. The whole bit about his dad felt like a time-wasting filler (I haven't read the novels). Also noticed the drop in the art/animation with the faces of characters not very well drawn.

I'm a little bored with the 90% slice/filler and 10% battle of season 2. Season 1 was more like 40% slice/filler and 60% battle, where the 40% served extremely well to lighten the heavy atmosphere.

With Pheles and such, I do hope things blow out of proportion, leading to chaos! Next episode...aw gawd, not another flashback...although this time it's relevant.

Nothing wrong with that. He is just too excited to show to Shana that he can finally able to cast Fuzetsu, until he is completely unaware of his flame colour.

Compared to Fumina arc which is anime original content, the present school episodes is from the novels. Thus, we can roughly know when the school episodes end.

Yuji has been demoted to dumb harem lead. Shame really as I thought he was a quite nicely rounded character. The only good thing is he wasn't totally mangled as in another show that JC were involved in.

that's what'll get you: expectations. I've been watching this entire season expecting absolutely nothing, and as such have yet to be really disappointed. Yuji's the same old Yuji really, he's just moving at a snail's pace along with everyone else. though I suppose that can make things rather annoying if you're looking for the plot to go somewhere fast. well, maybe next week, when Wilhelmina prods Yuji into to action or somesuch.

anyway, I'd again point out that calling Yuji a lead might be a bit misleading. At the end of the day, Shana's the protagonist and Yuji's the support character.

Actually, the series gives me the impression that they're joint protagonists.

... The Japanese wikipedia agrees with me, too.

nope. there can be only one protagonist, and that is indeed Shana.

she's the one with the rivals in love, problems with family, flashbacks, and the one saving the day most of the time. And her name is the title. Yuji is certainly focused on and has problems, but again there can be only one focus.

Since when is the number of protagonists in a story limited to one? Have you read my analysis in the novels thread?
