Yeah, I know. The story itself it's cliché, but I liked the fact that Hayase was a bastard and was happy about it. Then he got a robot and was even more of a bastard...and that lasted 2 and a half volumes. D: Also, I don't like Hayase that much (Reiji is my favorite character from the manga) but that was a nice touch the manga had, IMO. But from the looks of it, they are going to explore more on that in the next episode.

I had no problems, and I live in South America. Some people said that there was a problem with the video but that they fixed it.

This anime shows potential but wow the main character is lame to the max there is going to need to be some major character development along with the plot to keep me interested.

Not kira as in Light from Death Note, Kira Yamato from Gundam SEED.

Lulu never tried to be a "hero" so his form of justice is different (and fits in character at least).

Kira...I've never had much a problem with him but I would say of the similar type. It is just that Kouichi is much, much, MUCH worse.

I think you will know what I mean when you watch.

I found Kouichi to be far more annoying than Lelouch ever was, to say the least, but it's just the first episode so his character could improve. I hope it doesn't take the entire series for him to change his tune though.

As for the action and CGI...alright, I guess. Nothing too impressive, nothing too bad either.

Too much throwing around of terms whose importance I ignore, but I'll give the show time to deal with that as well.

I've read the first few chapters of the manga as well, and it was precisely because Kouichi was such a bastard that got me interested in the first place. That, and the mecha designs came across as hybrid of Xenogears and ZOE to me. Funny, how that works.

Spoiler for episode 1:

I want to check the latest chapters, as this episode and the most recent chapter of the manga that I have seen have made me suspicious of Emi's true nature even more.

With regard to the art, it looks something I have to get used to, frankly speaking. The style looks ok on paper, but it's just weird-looking on screen. I have to give it credit for trying to be loyal to the original work though.

Though I am curious to see if this series can take the worst Real Robot series in modern anime history title away from Soko No Strain. *goes to watch first episode*

Hmm, I'm still getting this message though. "Sorry, this video is not available in your region... "

Ah well, this will turn up somewhere else sooner or later...plenty of other offerings this season anyway.

Ahhh...I knew it, I had a feeling that I would hate the anime after reading the manga and I was right. Not only do I dislike the changes they did for how the story starts out but also the character designs. Just can't stand the gundam seed style in in any other anime besides seed itself. Kizaki looks much cuter and prettier in the manga

Just finished writing a first impression for this show. Colour me slightly less impressed then Deathkillz and the average person here. I hope it can get better somehow, but I have a fairly strong feeling that it won't.

Roars*

But to think you were less impressed than me

I did like the action if that counts for anything.

If Kouichi's character is designed to be hated so much then this is a complete success. I will look forward to bashing him more until he improves (ha! a likely story ) as much as Makoto.

It's different from the manga, but not really in a bad way.

The action probably would have worked better for me if it was less jarring. CG mecha battling it out in a standard anime style drawn city with buildings that suddenly turn into CG style when they explode. Action is supposed to flow and look natural, not awkard so that it makes it easy to spot what technique was used where.

I don't think CG mecha are necessarily bad by default though. I mean MS Igloo 2 looks like it's going to be incredible, but that probably has a lot to do with the whole series being drawn in CG. Likewise, Pailsen Files had all of it's battles drawn entirely in CG so that there wasn't that stark contrast the art style of moving objects and the backgrounds.

Linebarrels though.....I'd liken the whole visual style contrast to early Playstation era games that featured animated character models over pre-rendered backgrounds. The style that Resident Evil and Final Fantasy VII made famous. It was really weird to see back then too, but it could also be chalked up to the limitations of the hardware. Now there's really just no excuse.

I liked the battle scenes. + loving the main character. Over the top crazy and easy to hate. I'll be very pleased watching him go down and fall to pieces when the series progresses. oh yeah he's already dead to begin with. please make him suffer more.
