Yay, I finally managed to get it moving counterclockwise by staring firmly at the bottom foot. However, my natural impulse will always be to look at it as if it was spinning clockwise.

Ok, wow. That is pretty cool. At first I couldn't see it conter-clockwise no matter how hard I tried, then I stared at the bottom foot, then looked up and suddenly it had switched, and now I couldn't see it clockwise anymore! Good stuff....

There are even cooler ones.
There's one were you have a mesh of color, apparently a photo of a castle was inverted. Then you have a black and white image of a castle.

If you look at theinverted color photo then when you look at the black and white one you'll see it in color. And I mean in the sence it looks like the equivalent in color.

At first I didn't get it since I thought why are they showing me a inverted color photo a color photo and a greyscape one.
Only after did I realise there is no color one.

The optical illusions involving colors really get to me -- I always check the colors in Photoshop (just to be sure!) and I find that my eyes are tricking me every time. Those are very clever.

Hm, the spinning of that dancer (figure skater?) depends really on the point of view imo. Since there is only the silouette (black top, grey bottom) it is not possible to know if it rotates clockwise or counterclockwise. Yet my favourite view is clockwise. I'ld really like to know what this means for my psyche (if it has any meaning at all).

The colored castle is cool, since it reminds me of how relative the human sight is. Presented with the bright inverted colors the receptors for the inverted colors drain their signal strength. When it switches to black and white, the inverted color recpetors have to recover therefore the opposit (normal) color receptors that were not used before are now giving a stronger signal in comparison and then... the difference in signal strength let the brain believe the thing is colored. I wonder if it is possible to emulate color-blindness that way (the one where one cannot tell apart green and red).

And of course I like all sorts of stereo images (except for the animated ones, they are just annoying)

I don't know why they ask 30 seconds to wait for the spanish castle, even a second or two is enough to see it in color.

And, for the dancer, the image doesn't say anything about the direction. So, pick anyone you like. I picked counter-clockwise, cause, the leg that moves the most is the left one. (if the right leg would have moved the most, I would have picked clockwise, maybe something related to not being a pure left-handed)

I love visual illusions. The dancer took me some time for it to change from clockwise to counter, but after a while it just kept switching.

a really nice one is the dragon illusion

Actually saw this a few days ago. At first I thought she was just spinning clockwise, but after 2 or 3 minutes I managed to get her to counter-clockwise. I can alternate between them both really easily now.

I suppose you inverted the wrong image. The black and white is normal (except for it being just black white). The colored one uses inverted colors though (yellow sky is not too common right? ). If you would invert the colored one, the result will be an overcolored representation of the color layer of the castle (as seen in the illusion).

Right Brain vs Left Brain (was: optical illusion)

I found this so interesting.

more info -
wiki - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateral...brain_function
original - http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegrap...012895,00.html

The Right Brain vs Left Brain test ... do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

If clockwise, then you use more of the right side of the brain and vice versa.

Most of us would see the dancer turning anti-clockwise though you can try to focus and change the direction; see if you can do it.

LEFT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses logic
detail oriented
facts rule
words and language
present and past
math and science
can comprehend
knowing
acknowledges
order/pattern perception
knows object name
reality based
forms strategies
practical
safe

RIGHT BRAIN FUNCTIONS
uses feeling
"big picture" oriented
imagination rules
symbols and images
present and future
philosophy & religion
can "get it" (i.e. meaning)
believes
appreciates
spatial perception
knows object function
fantasy based
presents possibilities
impetuous
risk taking

---

For me it was clockwise at first then i can forcibly control it to go both. After a bit, i would get half clockwise/counter clockwise and half the other, or vise versa.

If you can't seem to make it go around the other direction, there's a few tricks you can use.

Spoiler for tricks:

No matter how I look at it, it is going clockwise. Covering it up; opening/closing my eyes... I just don't see it, lol. I guess I'm really right brained.

I see a naked woman, spinning.

<.< ... >.>

Clockwise. Although everybody who knows me would rather , for better or worse, associate the upper category of terms with me. That pretty much falsifies the theory in my eyes. (Which surely originally wasn't on this journalism-compatible "if you .. then you ..." level anyway.) Of course, I know that the Daily Telegraph is quite a right-spinning paper, and you wouldn't expect much food for left brains coming from there. Maybe that knowledge has influenced my perception.
