Rock On! Rock music thread~

--so we've got a metal thread here; and rap/hip-hop, and also classical. So it's kinda strange that there's no place to discuss rock music, the favorite music genre thread shows that a lot has chosen rock as their favorite, too.

...and so: discuss. everything, anything about rock; hopefully we'll get some suggestions for good rock music.

I like more old rock bands, namely Def Leppard, ACDC, The Who, Bon Jovi, etc. But modern rock bands also appeal to my tastes. Examples: Finch, Bayside, Incubus, Linkin Park, Three Days Grace, etc

A few that I like are Led Zepplin, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Cure, etc.

I'm also a big fan of J-rock with bands like Ayabie, Plastic Tree, Dir en grey, 12012, Gazette, Alice Nine, Malice Mizer, etc.

for the older rock bands i like: the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith and Motorhead.

for the newer rock bands all i can remember right now is Rise Against. and on a side note Led Zeppelin and Motorhead can be considered as metal too.

A suggestion-the best rock group there is right now is V.A.S.T. but thats my opinion ^^
But my personal favorite is Bon Jovi without a doubt

Metal is rock. The so-called rock is just a messy hybrid of fake guitars, drums and bad vocals.

I will assume Thingle is a metalhead. Thingle, in order to judge music, I think one must listen to different genres of music to get a better feel of what it actually sounds like. Now go listen to some other genres other than metal.

^yep, you need to diversify to get the best of music has to offer. i love rock, but i'm also a metal-head, and right now i'm testing out rap as well. as for Thingle's comment of rock being 'just a messy hybrid of fake guitars, drums and bad vocals' is completely wrong, in a way. i've heard shitloads of shitty metal and rap -- you find shit in every music genre.

I don't like that many american rock bands since i'm more into metal. I just listen to rock when it's on the radio. ;P

^i hope that's what he means. i mean, look at Led Zeppelin; they were classified as 'rock', but they were also one of the first 'heavy metal' bands. and Motorhead considers themselves hard rock, too.

i agree though that a ton of mainstream rock makes me want to rip my ears out. if i hear another emo song over the radio i'll go insane.

It's weird, but I was never into metal/rap, and now I'm beginning to like some kinds. it's really weird. I really like rock, of course. Anything with bad-ass guitar solos is my first choice.

Ok i need some examples of commercial mainstream rock music, since i'm not really up-to-date with the scene.

Nevertheless i found a box with some old records, few weeks back: Ramones, Hüsker Dü, Velvet Underground, Sonic Youth, Pixies and albums from other US bands(probably all retired or split up today). Funny i really like music coming from the US back when i was younger, but today i rarely hear anything, maybe it the record companies that are pushing music that isn't my taste. However the last White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age and Foo Fighters albums is quite nice.

Need to mention the Kinks ^^

Surprised no one has mentioned Maximum the Hormone yet.

Other than that, I like Pearl Jam, Metallica, System of a Down, Breaking Benjamin, Reel Big Fish and Linkin Park...

EDIT: Didn't see the metal thread further down

Linkin Park's new album was so bad, it made me want to take a hot steaming dump on it. Twice. They morphed from nu-metal to this commercialised, mainstream piece of shit genre which is what 90% of today's bands fit into. Do people produce music purely for the sake of money now? Do they play music which is specifically written for the masses? Have they lost their drive to produce music which makes them truly unique?
