So McCain's pulling out of Michigan. It's not like it was really friendly territory for him, but it was within 1% at the height of his bounce. This ties in to what I said earlier -- having states that McCain can't afford to lose (like Florida) so close hurts McCain even if Obama doesn't end up winning them, because it forces McCain to pull away from the attack elsewhere to play defense.

I'm sure that the fact that the McCain campaign realized they have to start pouring money into Florida now is part of what made them pull advertising in Michigan.

From what I have heard, Ifill's book uses barack as a centerpiece for the changing of the old guard of black politics according to the description on Amazon and other articles I read. This on it's own does not equal Barack slant, it's more then likely a contextualized historical perspective.

Plus It's not like this is a secret, Ifill discussed the book last month with the washington post as politco pointed out.

There have been other pieces on that same topic written before, I hardly believe it's an ENDORSEMENT of Obama himself. I'm not saying anyone here who is saying that is predjiduced, but I think theres this idea that because Ifill wrote such a book and cause she is black then she is invariably pro-obama AAAAAAAAAANNNDDDD that she will not moderate the debate effectively. (which is bullshit cause I've seen her moderate before)

Like I said I haven't read the book, but if people complaining (not singling out anyone alone here) haven't read it they NEED TO CHILL OUT.

Association does not equal causation

Sooo will she sell more or less books if Obama wins? How much does she stand to gain monetarily if she sells more books?
See a pattern yet?

One only needs to look at the TITLE: "The Breakthrough: Politics and Race in the Age of Obama"

Sure, you can't judge a book by its' cover... but it does give ya a hint and a half!

Why not wait until after the debate to talk about how she did as a moderator? It's going to start real soon, and it's not like it's about to get called off now... It'll be easy to judge how she did after we've actually, you know, seen her in action.

It's Palin we are talking about. She doesn't need to be "set up" to look stupid. She does that by herself just fine

Here's a gem about McCain pulling out from Michigan:
http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archi...2/1481177.aspx

While it's certainly possible for McCain to win all those states, to claim Obama is on the defensive right now is some crazy spinning. If this is Obama's defense, I don't even want to imagine how badly he'd beat McCain if he went on the offensive.

I had to turn off the debate. I've had a bad day already and this isn't helping my stress levels.

I only saw five minutes or so on the economy. My general impression... What I saw reminded me of the 2004 presidential debates: The Democrat presenting the most twisted, dishonest presentation of both sides stances to pander and the Republican candidate sticking to ineffective, pre-built lines that do little to nothing to correct the record or actually describe the platform in any adequate way at all.

I wish Sarah Palin were better prepared and I wish some one would punch Joe Biden in the mouth.

Watching the debate right now. Surprisingly, Palin has yet to make a full moron of herself ( but is lying a lot instead ). So far Bidens answers have been a barrage of information ( some good, some not ) , and Palins answers have just been attempts to make McCain look better.

EDIT - nevermind, she just made a retard of herself with the same-sex questions. gg. :P

DOUBLE EDIT - She's also using alot of obviously pre-written criticisms against Obama such as the whole "Meeting with dictators without precondition" even though Obama already answered this stuff back in his debate with McCain...very repetitive of last debate. Overall pretty much a repeat from both sides on their views. Biden used a couple too.

Disappointing debate. Repeats of talking points on both sides.

Her "Is the VP part of the executive branch?" answer was pretty LOL though.

John McCain will get it done because he's a Maverick! WHY? Because he's a Maverick. John McCain has a Maverick reputation because he's a Maverick.

Jeez it's like Rudy Gigglianis "blah blah blah 9/11"

Biden's near tear-up when he mentioned about knowing how it feels when you're wondering if your kid is going to make it brought tears to my eyes.

She did a lot better than I expected. Some of her question-avoiding in the middle section really had me cringing, but she strengthened up towards the end, pandered to the usual rhetoric (I'm a hockey mom, just like all of you in middle America), and avoided making too many of the nonsensical gaffes that have plagued her TV interviews. Biden "won" the debate, but not by as much as he needed to. Anything less than a total destruction was always going to reflect well on Palin, considering the low expectations most had of her before going in.

Biden seems like he just made up a bunch of lies and it also seems like he had the questions before hand...im not saying he did but it seems alot like it even if he did have questions before hand Palin held her own very good up there against him

Biden came out looking more impressive than ever. He was always sticking to policy while also never letting up the attack on McCain and his political positions.

Palin, on the other hand, seemed a bit too nervous and unfortunately, did not convince. No doubt she's under considerable pressure given how there were growing dissent within the Republican ranks over her qualifications. I really didn't like it when she deviated from answering the moderator's questions and frankly, most of her answers lacked substance.

You don't think that he might have anticipated the questions and prepared for them? I mean, isn't that what politicians do before a massive public debate?

Just finished watching the debate, and I have to say, Palin did better than I thought. So did Biden for that matter, as neither one of them made any major gaffs. There were a few minor things, but nothing that should stick out too far. Still I don't think Palin did much to sell her position. She came off sounding like she was just reading off a script in her mind and stuck to soundbites. Biden did a bit better, and did a better job selling his points. Both of them had moments that I had to say, "hey wait a second..." on though. I'd have to give this one to Biden over all.

The one thing that stuck out in my mind was Palin's call for moving the embassy in Israel to Jerusalem. That would be a major PR blow against the US in the muslim world. Also while I agree with her call for a two state solution to the Israelli/Palestinian problem, as that's really the only thing that can be done, I wonder how that will play with the religious right. Sure even Bushy's been heaidng in that direction, but I don't remember him outright calling for a two state solution. It may just be stating the obvious, but sometime the obvious hasn't been stated because it needs to be done but won't be very popular with your supporters.
