Who knows if they're making a 3rd season or not, its not been confirmed from what we know, we're just desperately hoping for one. As far as I know, anime makers tend to 'spring' series announcements when they feel like it.

And yes, I agree I'd much prefer the books to be translated faster, I'll be almost 30 when they release the final volumes at this rate.

They can't be serious.
If you learn Japanese it takes you 2 years to be able to read these light novels. And it takes Yen Press 6 years to release them.

In my case, I have to worry statistically about being alive to finish the novel series if I wait for the translation (heads back to language study)

So, as far as I know the 2nd volume has a western dust jacket and a printed japanese cover?
It really sucks cause the 1st volume has a japanese jacket and a printed western cover...

Yes.

Most people I've heard who have expressed a preference for one way over the other preferred the western jacket & Japanese printed version. The OCD types don't like the mismatch & usually wish volume 1 matched volume 2 for the sake of their sanity.

I wouldn't go that far, sure I don't like the Westernized DJ, but Holo is Holo, and I couldn't do that to her.

Oh and I love that a lot of people have changed their vocabulary to start using the term "Westernized" as opposed to the other term that had been circulating!!!

"Americanized"... I took quite an exception to people slinging that word around in the context of the Yen release. I mean, so many people were expecting the original cover.
So, I felt it was not fair to lay such a tag on us by proxy... even if it was produced here. I sure didn't approve of the new cover, so...

That being said, I expressed my beef and others seem to have adopted the term I was using... "Westernized".

I don't know why a lot of people have adopted the word with which I chose to tag the new dust jackets, BUT I won't complain.

I will say I severely doubt the shift had anything to do with me.

Americanizing something would be putting an american flag on it. This word is just wrong in this case. Any western country uses this kind of art.

"Westernized" is the generally accepted term for this sort of stuff .... To a large extent, the Ameri-Euro-Rus pan-civilization is underpinned by the same principles (theological, mores, etc) just as the Eastern pan-civilization has their own set of principles. With overlap at the edges of course.

That other term being bandied around is just provincial thinking

Is the 2nd novel truly better than the 1st one?

http://www.amazon.com/Spice-Wolf-Vol...owViewpoints=1

"I really enjoyed this more than I did the first volume. The translation seems to be far smoother than in the first book. I also enjoyed the information on the merchant trade, which seems to be one of the big driving forces of the series- second only to the slow chemistry that is building between our two main characters. Hasekura could have easily made this book into something more supernatural & romance driven, but his choice to make the merchant life the focus has served him well. "

....

"If you haven't read the first book, I recommend that you start there first."

I didn't notice... I enjoyed both equally. I thought Hasekura's alteration in how he shared Lawrence's inner-most thoughts with us was an improvement.

But, then again, I really get into the stories, so I really don't over-analyze them.

But, I do agree; I love the use of the romance and supernatural as subtle elements as opposed to the blatant driving-force of plot development. It makes the story feel more natural and comfortable as opposed to forced and ridiculous.

Aye, both books are slightly different but not necessarily bad for it; part of the change probably comes down to the fact that; as the author admits himself, he'd originally never expected this series to take off the way it did, and he had partially forgotten the characters when he went to write the second novel, meaning he had to get back into stride in terms of characterisation and personality, leading to some slight differences between the second and first book.

That the novels have done as well as they have and gone on so long I think says wonders for whether he got back into stride or not

I did like both books though, I almost wish they'd animated the scene from book 2 where Holo met the Church 'saint' though, that could have been pretty amusing, but in terms of pacing and plot condensation I can see why it was excluded.

Im looking forward to more of these translations though; it does sound like the translation pace is much higher than that of release books, given that twitter was commenting on the third book translation around the point the first had been released.
