I didn't play MMO's for escapism though. I liked the scale of the pvp's. The strategy, tactics. Unlike fps's that get boring fast. With MMO's you still do something in the non pvp times.

It's cool now, me and a friend were playing for 12 hours yesterday, we completed most of Factions.

I must respectfully disagree; I know a number of very good players who do not have a bunch of accounts...

My husband's been playing DAoC for nearly 5 years and has over 20 lvl 50's spread out amongst several servers, some pretty high Realm Rank, etc. We don't' see the need to have more than 1 account per game, and it doesn't impact our "good"ness; merely our budget

It may be a generational thing, too; I sincerely doubt it's a problem affording game accounts when you don't have to pay a mortgage and whatnot

I used to play Guild Wars when it first came out. Spent a lot of time with it for about a year and made some great friends there... then I switched to a game called SRO (Silkroad Online) and stuck with it for almost a year as well... after that I went to WoW and I got bored of it in 3 months.

I used to love MMO RPGs but now they all just seem the same to me, I hardly even play video games anymore. Guess I just got tired of them.

From around age 6-7 I was introduced to STarcraft, and then I went on to play more blizzard games. Among the pile of the Blizzard games Trio (Starcraft, Warcraft, Diablo), I spent time playing them all at different periods of life. Basically, when I quit starcraft, I would go to Warcraft, then go to the new Diablo Season, and so on.

I got rich easily (I'm conservative when it comes to diablo items , unfortunately not as much in reality), but I tend to quit very easily, once I somehow convince myself that this is a huge waste of time. Then I just move on to the next.

Finally, in 07, I went over the line (many times actually) and by then I had already played/tried games like the Blizzard trio, CS, Gunbound, Bnb, Guildwars, Fortress, and more. I quit games around the end of July in 07.

I recently started and quit Rappelz as well, I tried it because I saw nice advertisements and I quit after, because once again it consumed a lot of my time.

What's this got to do wth MMO's IMO?

Just don't play too much, do other things while you can. There's a whole world outside that room you're in with the computer for hours .
If you can control your playing (i.e. you don't get heavily addicted or you set your priorities straight, unlike me ) then by all means enjoy your time of entertaintment. Just don't make MMORPGS or MMO games your priority and the source of all your friends Lol.

Maybe they have no choice anyways because they have trouble making friends and resort to locking themselves in from the world outside,
maybe they really like playing MMO's and dont feel the need to do something else.

Whatever it is, if that's the way people want to live, then let them.

There are a significant minority of people who play MMOs because they're physically disabled. These virtual worlds give them a bit of outlet and way to interact with people who don't automatically go "eww" and run away.

Granted, many MMOs now seem infested with little "dickweeds" (to use Penny Arcade phraseology) that no one would *want* to be near -- but many of the virtual worlds do have significant socially *functional* groups that disabled people can find a secondary "home" with.

Alrighty, I final started playing an MMO. I'm sure some of you have heard of it. I just started playing Fiesta today. I'm only level three right, but I plan on leveling up some more today. It's pretty fun, as I expected. I'm sure it'll be a lot more fun if I can, hopefully, get my friends to start playing too.

For the longest time (since 2002 as far as I can recall) my life depended on MMORPGs. >_>

Stopped recently to wait for a certain game to come out though, then maybe I'll get suck back into the whole MMORPG thing all over again.

For a while I was MMO-jumping like crazy, jumped about 10 MMOs in a month or two... orz
