First, get your image editing software. Preferably use Photoshop, which you have to pay for. But, if you can't afford it use gimp.

Download it here:
http://www.gimp.org/downloads/

Second, play around with the tools and get used to the software. When you're ready go look at signature tutorials which are all over the internet. The tutorials should give you detailed instructions on how to get started on making signatures.

Secrets? Umm no.
But well, to most freelance/professional designer photoshop is kind of just a touch up to things, it was made to be a sum up of everything there is. It is very flexible but just that it doesn't get into complex measures. Well for a little fun signature, I guess photoshop is good enough. But I really would recommend you to try Cinema4D/Ai first since they are the main tool if you are aiming to do something amazing.
