You should definitely start with dubbed anime or she will lose interest quickly. Once she's addicted, a bit older, and up to the taks you can try to lure her into subbed anime. It will then even improve her reading skills.

Totoro or Spirited Away are definitely good choices. Whatever you pick, remember that small children are easily horrified by things you wouldn't even think about. My parents could tell you stories about a certain four(?)-year-old totally freaking about over a Pinoccio movie (over the idea of whales swallowing humans to be exact). Seven is not four, but I think you get the message.

I think that is more important than worrying about public morale.

Just don't make her grow up thinking her role in life is to blush, being stupid, and making breakfast for some loser in high school. Please.

Where did you live at that point in time? I dunno at Japan, but here in Canada they aired the cut version, which I guess should be ok for kids as they seriously dumbed it down several notches. (You know they cut out a lot when the 70 eps CardCaptor Sakura became the 50 eps CardCaptors that was aired in TV in NA)

Maybe I should've been more specific and said North American TV, as I expect a riot from a lot of angry parents have they ever aired the uncut version in its full glory.

nanoha is the only magical girl show worth watching. even for kids.

true story.

disclaimer: I was first introduced to anime at an early age via sci-fi channel's "saturday anime" so I saw a lot of stuff that was probably not suitable for kids in this pussy politically-correct age.

I also remember watching a lot of horrible 80s action movies, complete with gratuitous violence and nudity (amusingly, my mom had no problem letting us see people getting gruesomely killed but made me turn away when the sex scenes started).

Alice Academy, Clamp School, Card Captor Sakura is something decent to watch

But something for sure, DO NOT watch Code Geass!

Wow, Media Blasters certainly got Tweeny Witches out quickly. The first volume will be relased on 3/18/08 and contains two discs plus a few extras running a total of 160 minutes.

Now that it's available with subs, I'd make this show a priority for your sister. I can't believe they gave it a 13+ rating, but this is America where young girls are supposed to look to Barbie and Strawberry Shortcake as role models rather than powerful young witches.
