Actually, we stopped using that pattern after EP5, though it looks like 1 or 2 somehow made it through to EP6. If we ever have time to re-edit older episodes, that's one of the things that's going to go.

Well, like I said, it's not your fault. He's the one who can't take his finger off the period key.

I submit that a murder was committed in 1996. This murder was a "copycat" crime inspired by our tales of 1986.
I submit that the murder was blamed on a witch. Just as we have done, in seriousness or fantasy.
I submit that the murderer was a human. As of course must be true.
And I submit finally that this murder was covered up, and that the culprit remains uncaught. This story is a redacted confession.

Spoiler for Re: EP7:

@Arcanis:
Look to chronotrig's answer and this one above. That was the "main" reason for my previous post but you are right, I guess that is how Ryuukishi did it in Ep7 (though I can't verfiy currently as my knowledge of the Japanese language is extremely limit it (for now at least).

I've already finished the patch, the translation is superb, as always.

I've been wondering something. Do you know how many words has one episode of Umineko? (approximately of course)

I think this is the shortest episode so far, isn't it?

Best regards.

EP7 is short for a core arc, but not by much. It's far longer than EP1 and EP2, but much shorter than EP4. Most of the games are roughly the same size, and I think we've just passed the 1 million word mark for the series as a whole.

It felt short for me, playing the 50% patch.

As the final scene ended, I thought, "Patch over? Already? ;_;"

That probably just comes from playing 6-7 hours straight, though.

I modified a Perl script to count up the words in each chapter:

Chapter 1: bytes 726, 878, words 138, 513.
Chapter 2: bytes 663, 287, words 126, 783.
Chapter 3: bytes 758, 546, words 146, 374.
Chapter 4: bytes 838, 049, words 161, 610.
Chapter 5: bytes 684, 563, words 131, 394.
Chapter 6: bytes 722, 078, words 140, 107.
Chapter 7: bytes 351, 321, words 68, 871.

Is that script just counting the translations? Because that score for Chapter 7 looks like it applies to the 50% patch.

Wow. For comparison's sake, I've heard Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (which wound up being the longest of all the HP books) was 168,000 words, just a little longer than EP 4. Imagine Umineko printed up and bound. O_O The series could easily rival HP in that case!

Anyway, so by this estimate, the total word count of EP 7 will be about 140,00 words -- around the same length as EP 6.

I'm still not done with the 50% patch, I don't know how you guys get through them so fast! I'm not a slow reader, but I take a lot of breaks, I guess. Plus I worked on Wednesday and Friday and couldn't read during the day. XD

edit: Okay, this reminds me. Once I got my download problems sorted out, I really loved the ease of the Hobibox download. I've never really tried to get my friends to play Umineko before because of the difficulties associated with purchasing the game, changing locale or language, installing the patch, etc -- you have to be a bit committed to the story to go through with it all, really. However I think the download version is easy enough that I could convince them now. XD One question though -- so with the Hobibox download, is changing locale or installing Japanese language support necessary? I already had my computer set up from playing EP 6, so I wasn't sure. There's nothing about it in the instructions for downloading, so perhaps not?

You don't need either of those to install and run the English patch. Japanese locale is only needed if you want to run the Japanese version of the game.

hmm, is that the actual word count or does that include things like programcode and code to determine what style text should have?

That is the word count after I've trimmed out all the program code and style information.

Actually, it already is.

Though I have no idea if Ryukishi is the one writing this (although I think he is) or if it's someone else. Which reminds me, I still need to read it.

As long as ellipses are in pairs, I don't care how many there are.

I hate seeing ".." or "...." etc.
