Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha Character Creation and Discussion (second reincarnation)

Well it was a pretty quick Idea I had, something like: "He... What if I make Rinya a sentoukijin?"

Also it's just a totaly out of place scene, as I have no idea myself how this could fit in one of my storylines (Well.. it could, but I was not really thinking about it. that's the reason I call it crack).

Okay! I reworked this scene... I hated the way I did it the other night, so I scrapped that version and went with this.

It made no sense to Tiana. Lynn had appeared, so had this new girl. Moving quietly around a full scale Melee in which Crash was busy trying not to get punched, smashed and skewered all at once time was a bit of a task. The guy was absolutely amazing at dodging.

Focus Tia!

Abigail was above, on a rooftop, running interference on Freiderick, irritating Caro’s loyal companion more and more with every shot. Caro needed to figure out how that Girl had snuck up on them with no warning, saw through her illusions AND managed to snap a hip shot off and score a direct hit at a distance. But it made no sense. Lynn they could excuse as distance. But the girl litterally popped up beside Crash, with more active sensors going than a cruiser in battle mode. What’s more, she was looking right at Crash. And for love or money she just couldn’t figure out how the girl seemed to just step out from behind him in the middle of an empty street.

‘I’ve got nothing!’ she announced over their telepathic cross-link. ‘Not even an optic hide could be as smooth and clever as that. Plus she’s got nowhere near the power needed to pull it off.’

‘Perhaps there is someone much like you supporting her,’ Caro suggested. Such a comment would come from a supporting mage after all.

‘With the range to cover Lynn from Nanoha’s sensors at the same time?’ Tia was incredulous. ‘The problem with optic hide projections is that you have to be within visual range of those you’re hiding. Otherwise the landscape projections become inaccurate.’

‘Maybe they’re doing something different,’ Subaru responded once more.

‘Like what?’ Tia snapped back. ‘Project a large scale illusion?’

‘Heh heh heh heh heh heh…’

Tia froze. It was a new voice. And it was coming in on her telepathic reception.

‘Heh heh heh heh heh heh…’

Without warning, the sky turned a stormy gray. The color and features of her environment faded to an equally dull feel. Nowhere were there signs of the fight she’s been trying to sneak around. Only silence.

“What the?!” She began in surprise. “A barrier?! No, can’t be…”

‘HAHAHAHAHAHA!’ This time, the laugh echoed from everywhere and within her own mind with seeming mirth at her statement. ‘Bravo miss Lanster… Bravo…’

The environment returned to normal colors again, but the others remained disturbingly absent.

“How about a little one on one between gunslingers?”

There was a blur of movement from the left, and Tia focused to see the blond girl, Abigail, attacking her. Moving on reflex, she fired quickly. The blond girl twirled through the bolts and responded in kind with an extremely rapid series of shots. Tia ducked and throw up a snap barrier to defend, feeling three solid jolts as she did so. Then she raised Cross Mirage to counter…

Abigail leaned back impossibly, swinging her arms around herself, causing her to snap into a horizontal spin just feet off the ground, sliding right between shots from the Center even as two of them made to home in or her. She landed with more seeming impossibility and continued to spin, cutting lose with two more loud shots, intercepting the homing magical bolts.

They froze in place, weapons pointed at each other.


It was then that Tia managed to get her first look at Abigail’s device weapon. Her eyes narrowed at the smoke still coming off the recently used cartridges. It was a six shot revolver mechanism that as she’d heard from Subaru, was powering the woman with mini-cartridges. Expensive logistics, not to mention a serious error in tactical planning. It made Tia smirk.

“You only have one shot.”

Abigail blinked and cocked her head to the side.
“Is that a problem?”


Tia knew just enough from recent experience to resist the urge to plant her hand squarely on her face. Time to probe a little.

“And then you have to reload,” she goaded.

“And?”

Patience…

“I don’t.”


Abigail shrugged.
“I fail to see the point.”


There was no way this girl was this dense. She was bluffing. It was an attempt to confuse her so that she’d get a free shot. There was no way she could reload six rounds into that design before Tia could get the same number of shots off.

‘Are you sure about that?’

It was that damned voice again.

‘Get out of my head!’

‘It’s rather cozy in here, I think I’ll stay.

‘Damn you…’

‘Careful… Keep your eyes on the enemy. Flinch and little Abby will embarrass you.’


Tia didn’t want to listen to whoever this guy was, but he was right. Neither had fired or raised any kind of barrier. If she took her eyes off for even a second and ‘Abby’ caught it…

‘Let me enlighten you to a little gem of information’ the voice continued in self-satisfaction. ‘In chess, there’s a series of moves often referred to as the Queen’s Gambit. This involves setting the pawns in the opening moves of a game as such that you are given a choice to either go on an offensive, Queens Gambit Accepted; or defend, Queens Gambit Declined. If you choose to accept, you will give up your initiative for freedom of movement, at the loss of control of the center. If you should decline, you choose to maintain the center here at the expense of your freedom to move. Depending on your opponent’s abilities, either way is correct.’

Tia’s eyebrow twitched.

‘What does this have to two with us pointing pistol devices at each other?’ she snapped off.

‘Is she really bluffing?’ the voice asked. ‘Or is it perhaps a Discovered Attack?’

‘Why are you telling me this?’ Tia asked. ‘Aren’t you with her?’

‘There’s no fun in a one sided battle,’ the voice seemed to fill to the brim with excitement. ‘Abby’s making it fair for you by using Thunder Six instead of Flanagan. I figured I’d give you a little heads up on what you’re dealing with to make things entertaining. If you think Miss Abigail Granger is just some low power shooter, you’d be making a grievous mistake.’

‘If it’s so fair, why are you hiding?’ Tia shot back. ‘Seems like cowardice to me.’

‘Hiding you say?’ and then the voice broke into seemingly deranged laughter for a moment. ‘My dear! I’m standing in broad daylight! You just refuse to see me!’

“Then step out where I can see you dammit!” she snapped aloud! “Stop playing around!”

‘Very well then…’


The wall next to them shimmered slightly as something seemed to pass through it. First it started with a glove, and then an arm in a red coat sleeve followed it. Then he stepped through, clothed in a bright red coat and hat, sporting a pair of round sunglasses, and a toothy smile. The move was so very subtle and deliberate, that the transition made Tia shudder involuntarily as a chill run up her spine.

“I, am Alexander Vladius Carrde,” he announced with a sweeping bow. “You may call me Thanatos Two, call sign Nightmare.”


Tia carefully kept one eye on Abigail as she glanced at the creepy young man, not a weapon in sight. Raising her other hand, an exact copy of Cross Mirage formed as the unit became dual-pistols. Alexander stiffened as she leveled the second unit on him.

“Queen’s Fork,” she announced. “I can attack two pieces simultaneously.”

Alexander grinned.

“Once again, bravo.”

“Another thing,” Tia continued, smiling. “You’re the one disguising everyone… You’re the higher value piece.”

Alexander stopped grinning.

“Zwischenzug.” She stated, and shot Alex in the face. The illusion mage flopped backwards onto the ground.

“Instead of countering the direct threat, I make a move that is a greater threat…“ she growled. “I’m a Forward Center, working chess style tactics is my job. Don’t toy with me.”


“Heheheheheh…”

Tia growled as Alex started to laugh from his spot on the ground.

This was different from before, he seemed to be losing his mind on the spot. She tightened her grip on Cross Mirage, just in case he tried anything else getting up. Alexander’s laughing hit a crescendo as he laughed like a total madman.

“Good!” he began at last. “I’m IMPRESSED! You’re no pitiful slouch like most of the halfwits who call themselves team leaders. VERY GOOD!”

And then he smiled eerily, still staring at the sky.

“But there’s one small problem…”


Something cold pressed up against the back of Tia’s head, and a voice like a snake hissed into her ear.

“I’m good at using the Sacrifice move,”

Tia’s eyes widened as the man in front of her dissolved into shadows.

“Checkmate.”

KABLAM!

“Mou…” Abby pouted. “I was having fun fighting her.”

“Your Thunder Six doesn’t pack as much wallop as Baskerville here does,” Alex appraised. “She was going to throw a barrier up and block the shot. Even with a quickloader, she’d have you on the run.”

“You always cheat by invading their minds and reading their moves,” she complained. “It takes all the sportsmanship out of it.”

Anyone who caught my last segment with the alternate introduction to Alexander Carrde... the scene involving Freid is still there. What I'm going to do, is have this be a double illusion to the Reader. Freid is actually fighting the illusion, and Tia got the Illusion trap... So by this scene, the reader should be a touch lost until they reach the next set of parts. (Lost as in "Wasn't abby fighting the dragon?") Unless of course, they catch the hints I set up and figure it out.

I spent about Four combined hours studying chess tactics to get this scene to come out right. I was originally looking for some kind of hidden double bluff technique, but found nothing good enough to match.

Well this is my first time making a character for Nanoha... as well my first fanfic related piece in a long while.

Arthur Lightbringer is an ideal Knight Templar. Raised as an only child in a far too loving family, as long as he demanded he would get anything he wanted. He lived sincerely believing in the existence superheroes and divine beings. He also believed if he worked hard enough, he could also become a superhero. Thus, after years of hard work, he joined the military to smite evil the police could not handle.

Arthur Lightbringer has a very high ego. His rich family and absurdity high mana levels help inflate his belief that he is the Chosen One who will who will lead the Armies of Light to Victory over Darkness on the battlefield. Because of this, he is fine taking orders from others as long as he can lead the charge against the enemy. He is extremely loyal to his Lord and it only takes half-hearted emotional appeal to convince him to go on a suicide mission.

Arthur Lightbringer’s Armor is that of a fully armored medieval knight. When in front of the enemy, he carries the battle standard / flag of his country on his back.

Arthur Lightbringer’s weapon of choice is the unique gunblade Clarent. It is an Armed Device in the shape of a sword with a 42 inch long blade. It uses a magazine system to load 5 cartridges, but strangely it is placed on the sheath. When both its sheath and sword are combined, its Gun Form is revealed. The magazine of the Gun Form holds 10 high explosive incendiary saboted armor piercing tracer flare .50 BMG rounds with the long name length further increasing his sense of self worth. His heavy weight and armor helps reduce the effects of recoil.

No knight is complete without a horse! Arthur Lightbringer has summoned a familiar that takes the shape of a fully armored white horse. Its name is Bucephalus and he restrains his master from being too bloodthirsty in combat. He also casts protection magic to provide additional defense against enemy attacks. While Bucephalus is fully capable of aerial movement, running on an invisible path in the air, Arthur is fully grounded and views aerial warfare with disdain.

Arthur Lightbringer’s own spells are rather worthless. His spell, “Light Sword”, can be performed at the cost of one cartridge. Its effect is that when he draws his sword it will shine with bright light. However, not all of his mana is wasted. His armor is supported in part from mana and is a touch above an average soldier’s protective gear. Although he does not know about it, his body naturally uses mana to greatly accelerate healing; he can heal from most moderate injuries in a night. His familiar’s tendency to force him to retreat, along with his defensive armor and high regeneration has allowed him to survive until now.

Arthur Lightbringer is very charismatic, as long as the men he commands don't inquire about their purpose in battle, he looks like a born leader.

I don't really know if i want him to stay in the military or not.... He feels as if he'd be a decent henchman.

However, his point stands. A more imaginative name would've helped. The profile itself... Nothing really bad, but could be better.

Descriptively, the character sounded like an ego-inflated Warhammer Fantasy generic (partly because of the banner on his back!) riding on a horse... That mental image really tickled. XD

He's charismatic? Yet an egotist? Something doesn't match up here.

I'd say he'd be dishonorably discharged for being an idiot one too many times, and then turn on the TSAB, which then gives the rest of the cast a chance to flatten him with pink firepower. If that's what you wish that is.

A mediocre start, but not exactly unsalvagable. Come up with a better name, and maybe work a little on his personality. If you like, make him something like a comedy character, a lordotic fool of blue birth. Don Quixote perhaps?

Device: Baleorius
An Armed Device, Baleorius was created by Johannes after he had chosen to take up the Belkan style of magic. When not active it takes the form of a small axehead pendant, which is normally kept clipped to Johannes' belt on his right hand side. Baleorius and Johannes' Knight Armour have no set up phrase, which he has used to gain the drop on opponents in combat. In weapon form, Baleorius is a five foot six inch long two-handed axe. At the axe head of Baleorius is the ejector for its cartridge system, cartridges are slid into the shaft near the base one at a time and the shaft can hold a maximum of ten magic cartridges at a time.

Personality: Quiet but helpful and kind to those he does not know, Johannes opens up around the few people who have gained his trust, happily chatting about anything and everything. To the few people he considers true friends, “siblings in deed”, he would gladly give anything to help. Has a habit of taking playful, flirting verbal jabs at his friends when happy, and smolders when angry, muttering curses in his native tongues. Enjoys sparring, as it allows him to train his self-taught fighting style. Is a very quick learner.

Appearance: Fit and toned, but otherwise unassuming, Johannes normally wears at least semi-formal clothing: dress shirts, dress pants, dress shoes and the like. He almost always has on a pair of black gloves and an old military coat from his home world, gifts from his father. Because of his appearance and quieter, more formal nature, Johannes is usually mistaken for being, on average, around ten years older than he really is.

History: Growing up on a country farm along the mountains in western Canada, Johannes had a fairly uneventful childhood, marked only by his interest in learning anything and everything he could. Days after Johannes finished high school, he helped his grandparents to the funeral of one of his great uncles, and a chance encounter with Gil Graham opened Johannes' eyes to the world of magic and the TSAB. Deciding that studying something only a handful of people from Earth ever had the chance to was infinitely better than any university program, he accepted Graham's offer to work as a civilian collaborator for the TSAB, and started his magical studies under the eyes of Graham's familiars, Aria and Lotte Liese.
Two and a half years later, Graham was forced to resign due to his actions during the Book of Darkness Incident, and Johannes transferred to working for Admiral Lindy. A short six months later, Johannes was asked to help Nanoha, Fate, and Hayate transition into the TSAB workforce, as he had experience combining Earth ideals with those of the TSAB. The Wolkenritter quickly noticed Johannes' preference for melee combat, something his current style of magic did not excel at, and offered to train him in the Belkan style. A deal was made that Johannes' training would count towards the Wolkenritter's punishment service, and Johannes created Baleorius under the watchful eyes of the Liese twins as the final exam of his training under them.
After his long, painful training under the Wolkenritter, Johannes formally joined the TSAB, his punishment at the hands of Wolkenritter allowing him to quickly pass his formal TSAB training and Officer Training. He was then stationed in the Ground Forces, working with the Special Investigations Bureau, mainly as a guard on their investigations.
When Hayate created Riot Force 6, Johannes requested a transfer to her unit, and was placed under her command. He has been working under her command since, and enjoys his job as he enjoys working for Hayate, and his position allows him to continue his sparing against the Wolkenritter. Johannes's loyalties rest with his friends more so than the TSAB, which does cloud his judgments at time.

Style: In combat, Johannes will normally remain defensive until he has found a few gaps in his opponent's guard to exploit, at which time he will hit as hard and fast as he can in hopes of knocking down his opponent in as few blows as possible. His defenses rely less on shielding and more on evading and parrying an opponent's attacks, trusting his armour to take the few hits he cannot dodge.

OOC Stuff and Trivia:
Johannes has some quirks besides his preference for melee combat.
Was a fairly big eater even before taking up the Belkan style, and can be seen on a regular basis snacking between meals.
Can cook fairly well using family recipes, specializing in meats and fowl.
Is fluent in English and German, both languages having been taught to him by his parents.
Is a fan of music, and will hum various songs to himself if bored. Is also a decent singer, but won't normally sing in public.
Rarely drinks, preferring whiskey when he does.
Enjoys reading during his time off duty.
Alignment: True Neutral (leaning towards good and law)


Apart from magic, Johannes is very athletic and acrobatic, due to his preference to climb over and through obstacles rather than run around them.

Spell List: Spells with a German translation require a device, normally Baleorius, for Johannes to cast them.

Defense / Support
Knight Armour: The Belkan variant of the standard Barrier Jacket, Johannes' armour can deflect physical and magic attacks of B class power or lower and reduce damage inflicted by more powerful attacks. Substantial damage to the armour can only be repaired by dismissing and manifesting the Knight Armour.
Summon: This minor spell can call Baleorius to Johannes' hand from a distance, but can only be used in Baleorius is in weapon mode.
Boost: Johannes can supercharge himself for short periods of time, increasing his strength and attack speed. This spell is very draining to use, and can damage his body through over use.
Guard: This creates a very short-lived shield near Johannes, normally used to redirect an opponent's attack away from him while he either dodges or counters.
Bastion: This creates a powerful shield that can withstand a prolonged attack, but is not omni-directional and locks Johannes wherever he is standing for the duration of the spell.
Phalanx (Phalanx): This enhances the defense of Johannes' Knight Armour for a short time and cartridges can be used to increase the duration. This spell is also Baleorius' auto guard.
Flash Step: Johannes' only original spell, developed to make up for his lack of ranged abilities and inability to fly. Requires a brief moment to charge, and turns a short hop into a fast leap of thirty to forty feet. Normally used to charge an opponent. Requires something to jump off, however.

Offense – Weapon
Schildbruch (Shield Break): With magic focused into his weapon, this spell allows a swing or stab to shatter barriers or hard objects. Can be stacked with Flash Step.
Stahlzyklon (Steel Cyclone): Johannes changes his grip to the end of Baleorius, charges magic into it as he spins twice before slamming his Device into his opponent. The charged energy is released in a small shockwave of magic either on impact or at the end of two full rotations, making a near-miss still dangerous to his opponent.
Urteil (Judgment): This spell used magic to convert the momentum of a weapon swing into a kinetic shockwave. The size of the shockwave is dependent on the amount of momentum, and requires more magic when used with more momentum. The shape of the area-of-affect is dependent on the type of swing: a swing with Baleorius' axe head causes a coneal shockwave, while a stab with the point causes a circular shockwave.

Offense – Spells
Wind Blade: Johannes summons knives of air to slice his opponents. Weak and few in number, these are normally only used to distract an opponent as Johannes closes towards melee range.
Steel Yoke: Learned while training under the Wolkenritter, this spell summons chains to bind an opponent to a place, and is normally used as a set up for an attack, though the chains can be used to attack on their own.

Personality: Most people who pass by her on the street seem to view Mimi as a strong and silent type, one who dislikes making small talk. In reality, she is merely minding her own business, and does not wish to involve herself in unnecessary situations. While in public, she is polite and reserved, one that will talk respectfully if you initiate the conversation, but will leave you alone if you do not. When surrounded with people she is familiar with, such as her platoon, she is much more casual and friendly. During these times, her attitude is like that of an old friend, and is quite open. In missions however, she is very focused, and faces down missions with a steely gaze which has earned her the nickname, "Ice girl." Mimi has an extraordinarily strong stomach, and can do things that would make ordinary people sick such as: eating insects, gutting animals, and performing dissections on various organisms. In conclusion, don't mess with her or her fellow troops, and you'll be fine.

Background: Mimi was the first and only familiar of Dr. Isaiah Hipp, the first developed using his revolutionary methods that spent less energy than usually required for a familiar. At first, Mimi was created solely for experimentation and a research assistant for Dr. Hipp, however, Isaiah soon viewed Mimi as a relative, forming a unique Uncle-niece relationship. With the appearance of Justin Time however, things started going in a new direction. When Justin reported that he was enlisting into the TSAB, Dr. Hipp wanted someone to watch over his newfound blood relative, not willing to lose the very few relatives he still had contact with. Therefore, Mimi enlisted into the TSAB and was able to get transferred into Justin's unit. While relations between Justin and the rest of the company were awkward at first, as time passed, she gradually gained the respect of the entire platoon by showing exemplary teamwork and courage in high pressure situations, not to mention her extremely high mission success rate. Due to her status as a familiar and inherently lower mana than an ordinary mage, she worked on improving her close/hand to hand combat skills to make up for her comparative lack of magical ability. This gave her the reputation of one of the top melee fighters in the entire platoon, as well as one of the most dangerous physical fighters of the Ground Forces. While most people who have fought with her claim that she faces all enemies with an emotionless mask, some of the people who have faced her tell a different, more unsettling story. When faced with a particularly challenging opponent, her eyes are said to glow gold, as expected when using more magical energy in the face, but more disturbing is the claim that her face degenerates into a psychotic smirk, a combination which can shake the resolve of even the most hardened combatant. These rumors along with her relentless fighting tactics have given her a darker name, "The Monster of Midchildea," which her family strongly objects to. This name has also been viewed as homage to her toughness, determination, attitude in battle and brutal self-prescribed training regime, some of the more impressive feats being:

• A daily training repertoire of jogging 4 miles from her dorm to the ocean, swimming 2 miles in said ocean, and jogging 6 miles back.
• Frequently running miles through the so called Mojave desert wearing a gas mask, all black clothing, and a vest filled with heavy rocks.
• During TSAB mountain warfare training on Administrated planet Requaltor , climbing the last 100 meters of its famed 3000 meter Mt. St. Yeris on a broken ankle carrying over 100 pounds of equipment.

To this day, she continues to serve with the ground forces with the same men and women she first met, and off duty, spends almost all of the time training and spending time with her "family."

Fighting style:
In one word: relentless. As noted above, Mimi is obsessed with physical side of fighting, and revels in hand to hand combat. Through TSAB weapons training, she is able to handle guns with proficiency, and is quite adept at using magic through her status as a familiar. At her core though, she is a pure melee fighter who firmly believes physical fighting is the one TRUE form of combat. Most of her magic is geared toward increasing her combat capabilities through physical enhancements, and when fighting, attacks the opponent with an unrelenting assault until the situation forces her to regroup or the enemy is defeated.

Spells:

Offensive:

Bow Shock- A spell in which Mae slashes a blade of magical energy at an opponent, can be adjusted in size, primary wide range attack.

Flak Shooter- Spell consisting of several energy balls that can be directed at different targets or can converge at a single opponent. Can be detonated midflight.

Quasar Breaker- A bombardment type spell, most powerful beam attack at Mae's disposal, requires much energy and time to cast. A bit weaker than divine shooter and quite inefficient. Part of the reason why she prefers close combat.

Siege Skeleton- Enhances Mae's strength, speed, and agility.

Curse mirage- Much like the name suggests, a spell that causes the target to be filled with intense fear and panic. The target is also assaulted with horrifying hallucinations and is caught in a feeling of vertigo. Used to prevent an opponent from getting good effect on attacks as well as giving Mae a chance to escape, also good for distraction. In order to cast this spell, Mae needs to be facing the target, and is one the spells which require enough energy to make her eyes glow yellow. After much training, Mae can now affect several targets at once. Considered her trump card.

Support/Defensive/other:

Gimbal Lock- Copied/Taught by Justin Time, standard bind that disrupts brain/muscle connections.

Heliosphere- Basically a Midchildean version of Panzergeist, a defensive aura to repel attacks. Requires much energy and is only used for emergencies.

Solenoid shroud- Shield that reflects weak attacks back at the caster.

Refractor field- As said, a field that when attacks enter, veer off in different directions than intended. Degree of change depends on power of attack and time allowed to form defense.

Trivia:

• Enjoys swing/jazz music
• Avid horror/sci-fi movie fan
• Curse Mirage rumored to have been developed after Mae watched Batman Begins and Jacob's Ladder consecutively on Halloween night.

View on Ground Forces:
From her active days as a member of the TSAB Ground Forces her relationship with and opinion of the branch has taken on sort of a love/hate relationship. On the negative side, Mimi is frustrated at how the Ground Forces is seemingly unjustly scorned as being incompetent and inferior to the Navy and Air Force. At the same time, she realizes that much of the blame can be attributed to the actions of the higher command *cough* Regius Gaiz *cough*, and is frustrated at how a minor but widely scattered group of incompetent grunts as well as a somewhat undeserved reputation is holding the Ground Forces from blossoming to its full potential. She does however, concede that much of the TSAB Ground Force command and much of the C.O ranks are, "Full of retards."
On the other hand, she seems to take pride on how the Ground Forces survive without a steady supply of strong mages and how much the Ground Forces place more emphasis on the physical side of things instead of just magic.
