Heh, I live some 750 meters from the exchange. I get a good clean and stable connection, but the speeds provided by the actual isp suck. Sometimes I can get hundreds of kb/s (mostly overnight and even then only on direct downloads), most of the rest of the time I'm lucky to hit 50kb/s even from direct downloads, and torrents and other P2P roll along merrily at 0.5kb/s tops generally (until 11pm when they run reasonably fast again, until about 9am next morning, so obviously there's either serious routing problems during my peak hours, or the isp has found a way around enryption, or all of the above and then some).

If you're with tiscali, plusnet, freeserve or... (can't think of any other crap ones atm) lol
Grab your MAC and skidaddle out of there.
I figure the isp's that have to restrict usage on peak times, can't handle the traffic, so yeah, you won't always get the speed they 'promise', but then I rarely believe any company that says so that's using phone lines to run their service on.

I'm with eclipse, who were awesome initially but kinda suck now. I've already had to get a MAC code from one isp so I could jump ship to eclipse. Now eclipse have gone downhill as well and I'm after a new one again. I'm hearing really good things about O2, so I can't wait for June when they're in my area finally.

Pretty much yeah, Eclipse seem to have expanded too much too quickly and now their network can't keep up. Maybe it'll get better when they decide to upgrade (if they do at all) but I'm not really holding out too much hope.
