The story is set in a world where science=supernatural powers and religion=magic. This is a work that mixes reality and the occult, which seems to be incompatible at first glance. Never knew this series until now, but I have seen the railgun manga on Amazon before.

The religion part of synopsis is a turn-off, but everything else has potential to be interesting, so this goes on my to-watch list for now. Just hope the religion part isn't stressed... Aah, I hope...
Not going to buy the novels though... 16 is waay too much to buy...

Another shounen (boy's) light novel series from Dengeki Bunko is getting animated I have been waiting for this to get animated, I heard good things about this light novel series

Yet on the opposite hand, I see lots of blank stars on Amazon's reader reviews (not that there aren't full 5/5 reviews or anything).

Dengeki Bunko is my type of taste in light novels, it rarely dissapoints me Shakugan no SHANA, Baccano!, Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu, Toradora!, ... I do consider this the best boy's label out of all the boys' labels.

Anyway, its best to wait and see how they'll handle the anime.

Appearance | Affiliation:

A first-year going to a high school in Academy Town.
His level assessment is level 0.
He has a medium build, and his pointy hair is his unique trait.

Decription:

A boy who lives in the dormitory of "Academy Town", an educational institution that includes "supernatural power development" into its curriculum. His power value is the lowest "Level 0", but his right hand has the power called "Imagine Breaker (lit. Illusion Killer). He is the type to use his body before his head. Therefore, he is quick to get into fights and sometimes uses rude speech, and he exhibits it commonly during times where he prioritizes others over himself.
Living by himself, he is fairly skilled at cooking. When he first met Index, he made fired vegetables for her because she was hungry (there were problems with the content though).

Ability: Imagine Breaker (lit. Illusion Killer)

The only power Kamijou possesses. Regardless of whether it is magic or ESP, it can negate any supernatural phenomenon (this power itself seems to not be either). Imagine Breaker can even render "God's System" powerless, but it's range is limited to past his right wrist. Because of that, it isn't effective and there are many weaknesses.

Appearance | Affiliation

Belongs to English Church, 0th Section "Necessarious (lit. Church of Neccesary Evil"). Formal name is "Index-Librorum-Prohibitorum". Magic name is "Dedicatus545 (the devoted lamb will protect the knowledge of the strong)". A long, silver haired girl who constantly wears a pure white sister outfit with gold embroidery. Because she has been in the magic world for so many years, she is very distant from recent science.

Discription:

Despite being a star, she can't use any magic. Instead, she has the ability "Complete Memory Ability", allowing her to remember anything she sees word for word. By the English Church who has their eyes on her power, starting with "Lemegeton (Lesser Key of Solomon)" and "Necronomicon", they had her memorize 103,000 grimoires. From that upbringing, there are people who ridicule her as "grimoire library", and there are various mechanisms applied to her body to prevent her from betraying. After running away from the English Church, she meets Kamijou Touma at Academy Town.
She has a childish personality and is a glutton. When she speaks out Japanese names, she uses "hiragana". When she feels stress, she has a habit of chewing on things.

Ability: Complete Memory Ability

Just like it says, it is a miraculous power that allows her to "completely" "memorize" what she sees. However, it is a strong ability that memorizes things regardless of her will. Because of that, she has a big problem......

A sorcerer who invades Academy Town. Magic name is "Fortis931 (I certify my name as the strongest here)". It is hard to tell from the flashy appearance, but he is a priest and a magician who uses runes through cards. His height of 2 meters doesn't match his age of 14, his long, red hair is bent, and there is a bar code tattoo on the bottom of his right eye.

Description:

A genius sorcerer who, at a young age of 14, analyzed the 24 runes existing and created 6 new ones. He specializes in fire magic like "Innocent (lit. King of Witch Hunting)" and "Flame Sword". To Kamijou Touma, who lives in the town of "science", Academy Town", he is the person who symbolizes the world of magic. He is a heavy smoker who constantly smells of sweet perfume. To recover Index, who is worth a lot magically, he invades Academy Town and fights Kamijou Touma. Being an agent of Necessarious (lit. Church of Neccesary Evil"), there are times he meets Aleister and moves around between English Church Rola Stuart.

Ability: Rune Magic

Along with "Flame Sword", that can control flames of 3000 degrees freely, by arranging seals in the surroundings beforehand, he can use extremely powerful fire magic there. One of them, "Innocent", through a giant, heavy oil-like giant being, the flames inside the rune seals can revive many times without disappearing and demonstrate overwhelming power. Stiyl himself, possibly because of his focus on magic, his physical abilities are inferior to others and is weak in hand-to=hand combat.

A sorcerer who invades Academy Town with Stiyl. Her magic name is "Salvare000 (A saving hand to the unsavable ones)". Having an extremely strong sense of duty, she also speaks politely. Tying her long hair in a ponytail, jeans with one side cut to the root, and the Seven Heavens Seven Sword on the western belt on her waist. By the way, she is younger than she looks (18).

Description:

Invading Academy Town with her colleague, Stiyl Magnus, she is a sorcerer who has come to recover Index. While being called a "sorcerer", her specialty are superior sword techniques from a long sword called "Seven Heavens Seven Swords", and her substantial physical strength lightly surpasses Stiyl.

Ability: Sword Techniques

With her magically strengthened body, the sharpness of the attacks of her long sword "Seven Heavens Seven Swords" is certain, godspeed drawing times, "Seven Flashes" that shows seven swordsmanships at once, the all-out final secret technique "Sole Slash", her combat abilities are bottomless.

She goes to Tokiwadai Middle School, one of Academy Town's best girls' schools. 14 years old. She has a slim body fitting of her liveliness.

Description:

One of the seven level 5s in Academy Town. Holding the power to control electricity freely, the power is an all-rounder capable of being used for all kinds of things. Ever since a level 0, Kamijou Touma, easily negated the electric shot she fired, she tends to charge at him (she doesn't know the details of Imagine Breaker).
Like many of the students in Academy Town, she lives in a dormitory at her middle school. Her roommate is an underclassmate, Shirai Kuroko. She is popular in the school, regardless of underclassmen or upperclassmen.

Ability: Railgun (lit. Super Electromagnetic Gun)

The power which is the origin of her common name. Using the principle of electromagnetic force, she can launch stuff like medal coins at three times the speed of sound (frictional heat burns the coin out in no time, so the range is about 50 meters). Also, she can collect the electricity in the atmosphere and shoot electric shocks of 1,000,000,000 volts, interfere and sense radio waves and electromagnetic waves, cracking of a computer, she is a versatile electricity user.

Underclassman middle schooler who worships Mikoto.

A first year in Tokiwadai Middle School. Her ability is level 4 "Teleport (lit. Space Movement). She belongs to Judgement, the public morals committee. Her light brown hair is put into twintails. She lives in the girls' dormitory. She prefers slightly showy underwear and bedding.

Description:

Misaka Mikoto's roommate and calls her "Onee-sama". She seems(?) to be a student of Tokiwadai Middle School and speaks in a ojou-sama tone. She belongs to Judgement, who aim for the maintenance of public order, and goes around school controlling and dealing with the troubles and incidents that occur. She tries to invite Mikoto into the Public Morals Committee over and over again, but it is treated lightly by her.

Ability: Teleport (lit. Space Movement)

Anything she touches can, ignoring the third dimension-like space, be transferred to a specific spot. Value is level 4. Her ability is limited, and the limit to the mass she can move is at the most 130-137 kilograms and the range is, regardless of mass, at 81-85 meters.
It is possible for her to continuously teleport herself, and in those cases, migration velocity reaches 288 kilos per hour.

Complete little girl declared teacher
"Kamijou-chan, is it OK?"

Appearance | Affiliation:

Height is 135 centimeters. Her appearance is a little girl teacher who looks like she is in elementary school. The fact she looks like she fits red randoseru is considered one of the seven wonders of Academy Town.

Description:

Her figure, appearance, and speech are all like a elementary schooler's, but she drinks beer and a heavy smoker (she's quite picky about choice) and a full-fledged adult. Kamijou's good understander and cooperator.
It seems during the summer vacation's supplementary lessons, she has swore to her heart to firmly educate Kamijou.

Wow, Touma looks a bit more manlier. The production values looks good so far. Too bad I've only read up to chap 4, so I don't know the other chars . Mikoto's Railgun looks really good, my expectations of this anime has increased. Can't wait .

The action looks well animated, Mikoto, and everything pretty much looks awesome. This has just become my most anticipated show for the Fall...
Though I wonder if it is okay for them to show so many spoilers in a trailer...
My only complaint might be that Touma looks a bit too old in a few shots...
