Kanon 2006 if the one you watched is 2002's version.

Agree on ef and True Tears, eh on Myself; Yourself, but try it out.
Also, REC, a short slice-of-life romance with a touch of comedy,
Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, a short romance about a pair of teenagers in a hospital,
and Iriya no Sora, UFO no Natsu, a short (again) romance focusing on a girl whose past shaped her current state and the boy who stands by her side.
Maybe also Gift ~Eternal Rainbow~, it's quite similar to Da Capo.

Welcome back, Phlaw. I recall seeing your face around these parts once upon a time!

So, seinen + romance to me = adult relationships. Here's a few recent ones, and I hope you enjoy them!

Nodame Cantabile
- college-aged students at a classical music academy face life and love decisions as they enter adulthood;

Bartender - most of the stories in this show talk of loves and dreams lost, but there a few episodes that remind us that hopes springs eternal.

Oh! Edo Rocket
- Despite being a satiric sci-fi piece with an alternate history theme, this show has some excellent pairings.

Baccano! - American gangsters, alchemy, and romance, what more could you ask for. There are many appealing couples in this show, and there's a whole lot more.

Welcome to the NHK! portrays the life of an early-20's "hikkikomori," a young man who takes money from his parents to live in an apartment and do essentially nothing at all. His next-door neighbor is an otaku of the first order; the two of them go on to make ero-games together. Meanwhile our hikki becomes the target of a young woman who wants to help him shed his sorry fate. Licensed to ADV.

How about a supposedly shoujo or josei show:

Saiunkoku Monogatari has many excellent romantic relationships. The main characters are in the 18-24 range, but there are some other powerful older characters as well. The character models make thie show a feast for the eyes of both genders. The voice acting performances make it a feast for the mind as well. The first season was, sadly, licensed by the now-defunct Geneon USA, so you're on your own for that. The second season is unsurprisingly unlicensed.

Seirei no Moribito suffered the same fate as Saiunkoku but has been rescued by Media Blasters. There's less romance in this story than the others, but the characters, particularly the 30-yo female spear-wielding bodyguard Balsa, take a fantasy adventure show to another level.

Strawberry Panic... bah

I never thought i would get into this anime from the start, and although it started really slow, i gradually fell in love with it, until

Spoiler for SP Ending:

i would have rather that whole last seen happened but
Spoiler for my idea:

but maybe this is why i have never really gotten into this genre. is it just because I'm new to this that i was expecting a better ending?

i guess, what I'm looking for, is an anime very much like strawberry panic, but where the ending fits more into what i was looking for.

(bear in mind, i have never seen another Same sex anime before, girl/girl, guy/guy. i have seen countless romance animes that focus around guy/girl from either perspective, but any recommendations you make for me Yuri wise, will be an original)

ps.. also to be a bit nit picky, I'm really not into ecchi much. porn has its place (i am a guy after all) but i have a soft spot for deep romance animes.

Ehh, I didn't much like Tamao.

You really should watch the Maria-sama ga Miteru series if you haven't. (3 series' with a 4th on the way) It's not explicit romance like Strawberry, but it is a much better show.

Simoun is another nice pick. While not as character-focused as Maria-sama, it does have more explicit relationships.

They're superb titles.

Best place to understand yuri and shoujo-ai? Erica is your friend; beware of spoilers, though.

i shall be watching the two suggested animes soon, i hope they are nearly as pleasing (except for the $%&^ ending) as Strawberry Panic. I also was browsing around and found that
Spoiler for Ending:

of course, i've always believed that the best writers are the one that write the unexpected (like when you watch a horror movie and KNOW what is about to happen regardless of whether you've seen or know the plot) but still, i don't like suprises in my romance. lol oh well. this is why we discuss these eh?

anymore suggestions?

Oniisama E is a ground-breaking, heart-wrenching yuri drama with some dark themes and subjects discussed in there (in fact it's probably one of the most extreme anime ever aired on the government/publicly-owned NHK). For some people involved in yuri and shoujo-ai they say this older series influenced the development of Marimite and StoPani.

Trivia: two of the seiyuu playing the major characters in Marimite are also in Oniisama E as minor characters.

No, it's being prudent.

It takes a fraction of the time and gives you hundreds of recommendations.

NHK is government owned?
Ah, now I get it.

I'll definitely second Marimite. There's a larger focus on all kinds of character interactions and not just yuri relationships, but you'll want to catch it nonetheless.

The currently airing Candy Boy is a fun, short slice-of-life series series you might want to try out, too.

Offtopic: I have to correct myself a bit... NHK is roughly the equivalent of the American PBS, which explains for the "or" (for organization) in the broadcaster's website URL (http://www.nhk.or.jp). See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHK.

watch maria-sama ga miteru. strawberry panic reminded me a lot of marimite, but they are very different in nature. a fourth season is coming out eventually but just think of it as ending after season 2 (first 26 episodes), as the third season is substantially worse.

other yuri include:

gokujou seitokai
gakuen alice
otome ha boku ni koishiteru
shoujo kakumei utena
kasimasi ~girl meets girl~

which range from being very girl/girl to just crushes.

I'm going to have to disagree. I enjoyed the 3rd season immensely. (and judging by ratings on AniDB, I'm guessing most watchers felt the same)

On the contrary, story-wise the OVAs packed more punch of drama (especially for the first two episodes) despite the odd character designs and some slight deviations from the original light novels.

Now if you wanted your yuri cocktail to be superb old-school mixed with psychological imagery and drama that rivals Eva, combined with some high-proof laughs and drama, intense swordfighting and a dollop of visual LSD, Utena (SKU/RGU) is for you.

No one mentioned Kannazuki no Miko?? It may not be something OP wants but, just give it a try.

Maria-sama ga Miteru is great, but expect it to be more of a 'sisterhood' relationship. Yes, there existed a couple, but it is not the main story of the anime itself. In terms of deep romance, Kannazuki no Miko will be a better choice.

There are lots of discussions on the mech in KnM. While some loves it whole-heartedly, another group disagree and says that it is repetitive and boring. None-the-less, Chikane (main lead) and Himeko (main lead) makes the anime truly enjoyable to watch, and has the potential to make your mind goes really f*cked( sorry for the usage of vulgar, I couldn't find any other appropriate words). In addition, there's also re-watch value

An additional link: http://www.amvs.org/miko/
Pretty self-explanatory.

And no, Marimite doesn't get substantially worse, I will have to agree with jedinat with regards to it.

Gokujou Seitokai is a very interesting anime, and seems to be overlooked..
Comedy series which revolves around an all-girls academy + awesome voice acting, but no, don't expect too much Yuri out of it. Remember, it is only comedy + girls, Yuri is almost/non-existent.

PS: Strawberry Panic! is awesome

Spoiler for Strawberry Panic:

Now, I demand another season for any of the anime listed above.. haha.
Well, I do know Marimite is getting one.

Strawberry Panic was one of my favourites. I found it cute, romantic and I just generally got sucked in to the love circles.

"Suzumi kiss Aoi!!! KISS HER!!!! DO SOMETHING TO HER!!!"

I thought they were perfect for eachother, and I was almost in a fit when Suzumi voice recorded Aoi screaming and kept playing it through earphones. That was seriously hilarious!! XD

I also loved the cast of characters.
