Angel Beats being in there will never make sense to me. (so, i must say polls spanning 10 years isn't a very good idea. People will always vote for the latest series even though they don't deserve it.) Especially the rankings.

Yeah, it's a repost of a previous poll, you can find confirmation if you go back a few pages.

I'd like to see Alto and Sheryl continue to show strongly in that magazine poll for a good time to come, but let's not get our hopes up too much. That post movie release wave of popularity can't last forever.

These rankings are so screwy this month. Kira is missing for the first time in how many years? Sheryl is doing pretty well, but not sure why Ranka is higher this month. Though I'm happy about Kotetsu is #8.

Ranka is probably higher than Sheryl this month because from what I've seen anyway most Sheryl fans are also Asuka fans. And I hope whoever intends to watch 2.2 doesn't look at that asuka image.. I remember seeing the asuka cover for newtype a few months back and just went "WTF" when I saw it...

If you look at the anime magazines in Japan they have their own demographic/niche. A competion about "moe"-ness will be dominated by bishoujo characters. Animage original: general anime aimed at older audience then animage.
Animedia: similar to animage
Dengeki G's magazine:bishoujo magazine, all ages?
Dengeki Girl's Style: bishonen for girls, shoujo?
Megami Magazine: bishoujo magazine for seinen demographic
New type: general anime like animage but more mecha centric
Nyantype: bishoujo magazine aimed at seinen audience
Pash!: anime/cultural and seiyuu magazine for women, josei?
Terebi-kun: Mostly tokusatsu but also some anime, aimed at kodomo/elementary school age

It gets even more complicated if you bring in games, hobby/figure and manga magazines who all overlap in content and fans with the anime magazines.

personally, the magazines I'm more likely to buy include Continue, Otona Anime and Cut, which tend to be aimed at older audiences. Cut, in particular, is an entertainment magazine, rather than an anime one.

I don't know. By most definitions, Macross is ye olde mekka animeeh!

And it sure garnered a lot of younger fans with Frontier.

hm...I know its mecha...but I've never liked buying Newtype because it's generally light on content and seems to be aimed at the JHS crowd...as in, I'd expect its regular buyers (or, alternatively, the regular voters) to be more into IS, Stardriver and the like...

Come to think of it, I guess that'd also explain why Newtype, Animage etc material seems to focus on the (love) triangle more...

I will admit though... last issue's Asuka pose was awesome. I guess I can't complain if she made #1 spot, I like her, too.
