Heroic Age just finished earlier this year. It is not that old.

Obviously I'm going to be delighted with the OVAs given Monir's assessment since I had a sunnier view of the first tv ep ... mayhaps I should hide them from myself until the series is over?

Your best bet is to actually watch them first so that you can enjoy the art and the jokes the first time, then check the toned down TV version. No reason to spoil the jokes, cause you know, jokes work best the first time.

Make sure you hold on to your pants, because they WILL fall off otherwise from excessive gigling.

Okay.... I get it. The OVAs were brilliant and even ended satisfactorily. I stayed up late watching them all in one marathon.

Now I don't know if I'll be able to keep watching this..... derivative? New skits maybe? (but since the only good skits in ep 1 were the remakes --- not a good sign)

Awww you guys shoulda let vexx just watch this first...Now he's been spoiled like the rest of us poor sobs.

For me whether I'll continue to watch depends if they keep recycling old skits or if all the new ones are on the level of Air Guitar...If they can atleast clear those two meager hurtles I'll stick with it even if it is inferior...

So far I've enjoyed the first episode. I haven't seen the OVAs yet, but I'm gonna try and hold myself back on that haha.

Don't do that, you'll get the jokes wrong the first time and then it might be too late to enjoy them the right way You have been warned

uh... they're 10 to 11. The 5 is their grade number, not age.

Hoh hoh~, this is a surprise. Compared to the previous episode, the art and jokes were a lot better. Even the original.
Had quite a laugh watching it.

Quite surprised at how much it improved...
For now, I'll continue watching it. Episode 2 has given me hope this TV series won't be a complete disaster.

Hilarious as always, that

In the series... the real question for me is how he's been able to avoid delinquent school or being arrested for all those "misunderstood moments"

Their still heavily relying on reused skits...

I guess maybe their isn't that much material and thats why they keep retreading it? Well their good skits and they aren't butchering em so its fine I suppose...

Well, to be honest, episode 2 wasn't that bad at all. Sure it ain't as 'kinky' nor is it as aesthetically pleasing (both visually and aurally) as the OVAs, but it does it's job anyways.

Of course, I maintain that the OVAs are superior, but the TV series at least is watchable for me. Enough for me to *gasp* not stop people from watching the TV series before watching the OVAs. Certainly more amusing than Okawari ever was; I think I'll finish the entire series if this goes on.

What I'm really interested is that given that if they keep using 3 old periods and 1 new period every episode, they'll run out of the original material by episode 7 or so. As such, we have 5 episodes or so full of new material, and I hope they prove to be as amusing as the original material.

Sizeably better than episode 1 - the "Ave Maria" and "Whisper, whisper, whisper" moments were LOL funny. Ep 1 was really pretty decent IMO - I know everyone thought "Air Guitar" went on way too long, but really - it must've been a long time since you've either been or been around 10 year-old boys if that didn't seem realistic. I think the length of the scene was rather the point.

Anyways, since 1 was pretty good and 2 was better, that makes 2 more than acceptable. Not on the level of the OVA, but worthwhile nonetheless. The one criticism I share is that there is something slightly off about the girls' faces - just the girls, not the boys. It's odd, but not a deal-breaker for me.

Is this from the same studio as Miname-ke, or just the same writer? The different looking faces with high detail seems very similar.
