Any chance for a new build? Since Adrian is busy with real life and other projects, he doesn't have time to work on MPE.

Thanks a bunch!
I was thinking of a little rewrite of my build scripts to make it easier. I really do want to reach the point where I have to press only one button
On a side note screenshots have not been working with my latest mplayer.git, I'm aware of it but still have to look into it to find the cause.

I am having trouble playing some MKV files since some people thought it was great to screw over all the mplayer users, mostly Linux and Mac users by moving to mkvmerge 4.3.0, rendering all these files muxed with that version unplayable. It was fixed in the latest SVN of mplayer, but it would be a service if there was a prebuilt version or an update to MPlayer OS X Extended to incorporate the fix.

If you don't know, you can read about it in this blog post: http://aloedream.animeblogger.net/archives/2295

Hi,

1st of all get Mplayer OSX Extended Rev14-Test2 :

http://mplayerosxext.googlecode.com/...ev14-test2.zip

Which is the last version released, before the creator got busy with real life. I've been using it since it was released 5months ago, it's rock solid. Much better than the last stable release Rev13.

Second, there is a version of mplayer built for mplayer OSX Extended built by pigoz which is newer then the build included in Rev14-Test2, which has the fix included.

You can get it here:

http://code.google.com/p/mplayerosx-...2010-06-20.zip

extract and install that, and configure it as the active mplayer binary in Preferences, then Mplayer.

The above compile of mplayer requires at least an intel core 2 duo cpu and OSX 10.6(Snow Leopard).

I just tested the 2010-06-20 compile and it does play perfectly an MKV file I just created with mkvmerge 4.3.0, with the new header "compression" enabled.

Enjoy.

I didn't know that the newest binary had the compression enabled a while ago. Thank you for the heads up...

Also, I was using the newest test build... with the old binary...

Hi Pigoz,

Your 2010-06-20 build already contained the fix for MKV header compression, however the one anime_layer included in Rev14-Test2 does not.
So I'd imagine somewhere between his build and your last build, was the fix added to svn.

His is r31057 from ~2010-04-22, so somewhere in those ~2 months, it was fixed.

Thanks again for your builds!

Are there any versions of this new build that will work on OSX 10.5? Or anything that fixes the mkvmerge issue?

Sadly no,

Until the mplayer OSX Extended creator returns to active developpment. The only semi-recent build of mplayer available is Pigoz's build which is for 10.6 for 64bit only.

Looks like you just might be in luck, not that upgrading to 10.6 would be a bad thing.

Seems like the mplayer OSX Extended creator returned and released a new version, with mplayer builds from October 17th 2010, well after the header compression bug was fixed.

Give it a try:

finally!! i tried [DOKI] fatestay night: unlimited blade works (1080p) w/ MPLAyer(REV:13) and there was limited audio (people talking did not work, only background nosies ie blades clashing, soundtracks and etc worked) then i tried VLC player it worked.. but took forever just to open up the file. then i tried the lastest MPLAYER that CPUROAST posted and it works yay!!

only problem i have is that when i skip around it lags. but i think thats my MBP, not the MPLAYER.

great job btw!!1

Mplayer OSX Extended Rev14-Test4 was released quite recently:

http://mplayerosxext.googlecode.com/...ev14-test4.zip

If it lags a bit with 1080p content, try the following:

In Mplayer OSX Extended, while no movie is loaded, go in Preferences, then in the Mplayer section, choose the 2nd item: "Official Mplayer SVN with FFMpeg-MT" and click "Use this binary".

This will activate the multi-core version of mplayer and will greatly help especially on 1080p content.

Once that's done try playing the same file and see if there is any improvement, in playback/seeking.

This would be where all the prerelease versions are posted,

http://tracker.sttz.ch/projects/mpla...eleaseVersions

Normally if you set mplayer osx extended in preferences, to check for stable as well as beta releases, you'll be notified about these test versions.

rev14-test4 released - Added by Adrian Stutz about 1 month ago
As you can see the creator is still updating it, he's just busy with other stuff. So updates are a bit slower.

Mkvmerge is the primary tool on all platforms for creating and remuxing MKVs.
The issue, they are talking about is regarding MKV Header Compression. A feature introduced in Mkvmerge version 4.1. Which isn't supported in the stable Rev13 of Mplayer OSX Extended, but is in Rev 14 Test4.

Rev14 Test 4 has been rock solid for me and for all my colleagues at work.
So there is no point in running Rev 13 at all, especially since it's missing header compression support, which is being used more and more.

Is it possible to use the software upscaler with MPlayer OSX Extended? I tried to add "- sws 9" in the advance options but I didn't notice any difference.

I'm confused. I can play the .avi files now for Mac but I'm having trouble with .mkvs. There's sound but no picture nor subtitles. Can someone simplify the solution posted (maybe somewhere here) here?

Hi,

The link to the latest version of Mplayer OSX Extended(best video player for mac) has been posted serveral times throughout the thread.

but here it is again:

http://mplayerosxext.googlecode.com/...ev14-test4.zip

Use this and nothing but this. It's a much better player than VLC.

Thank you! I was expecting a lengthy explanation but I guess I didn't. I like it that way, too much information is confusing
