"Couldn't listen - unable to forward port via UPnP" error

Hello,

I just upgraded Windows XP to SP3 and everytime I try to open up a torrent it gives me this error.

I tried upgrading to the latest version of BitTornado and it still won't help.

So...help?

No UPnP.

Disable it in settings.

Should try uTorrent.

BitTornado was my client of choice as well, but the program is archaic and I believe development has been stopped on it for 2-3 years now. Try a more modern client and see if the UPnP functionality is OK. If not, port forwarding should be a quick and relatively easy fix. If you haven't done so already since upgrading to SP3, you may also want to try rebooting your router to see if it makes a difference.

Is the Windows Firewall running? Perhaps when you installed SP3 it started running the firewall at boot as an extra security precaution? (This is a total guess.) I think the problem might have more to do with blocked ports than with UPnP.

Sorry for taking awhile to reply, been pretty sick for the last few days.

Well, tried a different client and it works fine. Noticed that the windows firewall was up as well. Might try using BitTornado again to see if the firewall had any effect.

Thanks a lot.

I would count on it working, I had a simulair problem with Bittornado later on.
I never had any problems using it before and it was the first client I ever used but when I got another computer it starts to slow down to 1 or 2 kb/ps no matter how much I tried to configure my firewall settings, portforwarding didnt help either and then someone suggested me to use another torrent client which instantly fixed it. Bittornado has already stopped updating a long while back, I'd suggest sticking with the other client cause I don't think it'll have much hope to working again =3
