Hustle & Flow

Anyone seen this hit indie film by Craig Breywer?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otn1YORTxDo&fmt=18

I just rented this movie 5 days ago. It's about DJay (Terrence Howard), an aspiring emcee from the Dirty South who is trying to make it in the hip-hop world, has to deal with many different types of people who try to bring him down, and all the things that try to keep a player down. This is probably his last chance to make it: he is approaching his 40s, and his life is looking downhill.

If you read the description above, it's not your typical rags-to-riches story. I found the film well-made, entertaining, and even inspiring. I enjoyed the actual music-making sequences enormously, and liked the songs and the performances and the style of Brewer's direction. Some scenes are genuinely funny as well, particularly Ludacris' satirical take on self-involved Southern rappers

I still can't get enough of the Original Sound Track. I still listen to it even to this day

its a pretty good flick (although not an indie). the soundtrack is good and i believe three 6 mafia deserved the academy award they got for their work on it, but the best song is definitely whoop that trick

Hustle & Flow was indie

In the end, Paramount Classics/MTV Films acquired "Hustle & Flow" for $9 million.

As for the best song song... for me it's Keep Hustlin' (It ain't over). It puts a human face on why DJay had to hustle even though he didn't like it, and the music gig was his ticket out of the unhealthy lifestyle he was leading...

I thought the scene where they were making Whoop that trick was funny as hell... and I ended up chanting with that song
