ZONE (depending on how you define jrock; they're fairly pop-ish); they've retired but their "A side" and "B side" albums are still available.

Yum!Yum!Orange is a mixed group that plays J-ska some of which is rockish.

Both groups actually play their own instruments.

The visual kei music I've heard so far has been far softer or much less gothic than I'd expect from the outfits..... kind of disappointing. I'm all tapped out - the others I can think of are just singers or are solo singers (e.g. Ua).

The biggest problem is that what *I* call "rock" is something very few japanese groups do... its all just very pop-ish or soft. This makes people freak out when my car's player shuffles from Black Sabbath --> KOTOKO --> Jethro Tull --> ZONE --> Ua --> AC/DC --> some medieval chant --> ambient --> Ray Lynch --> trance --> Stevie Ray Vaughn --> the_themes_of_Paniponidash --> ZZ_Top --> System_of_a_Down --> traditional_japanese_folk_tunes.

Shuffle setting is just hilarious....
