*shrug*

Togusa doesn't have any cybernetic replacements. A cyberbrain is not a prosthetic.

You are not required to believe me, but I think I've seen enough of Ghost in the Shell to know what's "supposed" to be and what's not.

It's a micromachine implant. It augments the brain, it does not replace it.

Whatever, he's still not pure human anymore, and he is supposed to be.

In your imagination, perhaps.

I can provide multiple pages from Ghost in the Shell manga where Togusa is communicating with others via a cyberbrain.

Mr. Prophet: The interceptor device was featured prominently in the one of the earlier episodes (2, 3?) of season 2, involving an incident of a police acquaintance of Togusa who mailed photos to him before he was killed in feigned car accident when the interceptor messed up his eyes. Later, in episode 4 or 5, Prime Minister Kayabuki agrees to let Motoko monitor her activities through an interceptor in exchange for her wish to practice Zen meditation. Through Kayabuki's eyes, Motoko spots the assassin Kuze and stops him before he can make kill Kayabuki. I think the episode in which the interceptor first appears may have been titled "interceptor."

On cyberbrain implants: Yeah, I don't think there's any doubt in the TV series at least that Togusa has a cyberbrain implant, which is probably a minimal requirement. In Solid State Society, parts of his bodily functions are hacked and taken over, which would be impossible if he didn't have a cyberbrain (Though by the time of the movie it seems that he may have gotten other cyborg parts as well, due to previous close-death encounters, getting shot, etc). Also, the reason Togusa was asked to join Section 9 was not only because of his biological body, but also because unlike other members, who are all ex-military, he's from the police, and offers a valuable different perspective.

If I'm not mistaken, in the anime series (not sure about the movie or manga), Togusa was drafted into Section 9 thanks to Motoko herself. She values his old school style detective abilities and that's what got him her approval.

There's an episode from the first season where she watches him work, as he pours himself over a bunch of data, and I think her reason for bringing him over is mentioned in that episode. Actually, I find Togusa and Motoko's relationship pretty interesting. Nothing in that sense per se, but between two trusted co-workers with an "aneki looking out for the rookie" type of feel. ...Well, at least for that one episode anyway.

Well, adding to the Togusa/cyborg thing above...

It's possible that the lines are shifted in the GitS-verse. It's possible that the Cyberbrains are SOOOOOOOOO prevalent, that having one is totally natural and not really considered a cybernetic.

And I think cybernetic really refers more to a total replacement of a body part. A cyberbrain cannot work without part of the brain stem, at least, still there. Cybernetics are a total replacement of a body part, potentially all of the body, as in Motoko's case.

Yes, but in fact, most of the brain remains, not only the stem. It's kind of an outsider "equipment" for your brain, it doesn't really replace it, but as it has been said, it augments it.

No, I know, that's why I said, "at least." Motoko apparently only has a part of her brain stem still remaining, while others have most of their brain.

1st gig looks like an overall story but is mostly episodic.
2nd gig on the other hand looks like an Episodic but is really a complete story.

And the Movie looks like Filler but is really a sorta '3rd' gig.

Some questions about GITS

I checked anidb and that thing is in a mess...

So my understanding we have:

GITS movie -> 1995
GITS SAC -> 2002-2003
GITS 2 movie Innocence -> 2004
GITS SAC 2ND GIG -> 2003-2004
GITS SAC SSS -> 2006

I saw some other entries in anidb but I don't know what to make of that.

Am I missing something?

Most likely those "other entries" you saw are OAVs based off of the SAC series. They more or less act as crash courses for those who're just getting into the series. There are some extra footage added, but if you already own the original series DVDs there's really no reason to look into those.

You have a complete list there, as far as I'm concerned. (not counting the manga material, of course)

And this thread really ought to be merged with the GiTS thread in the licensed section.

I reread The Catcher in the Rye and still think its kind of meh. Invisible Man is a better story that kind of covers the same territory.
