The update is the following:

- Theme is chosen
- Gradient is chosen
- Opening Contest Thread is almost ready and just needs some final edits.
- Expect the Contest to officially jump in anytime soon.

The contest has officially started! Apologies for it taking so long. This thread will remain open to discuss anything related to general contest discussion.

Is the voting phase automated or are you going to count them manually (again).

Probably manual; but if I'm pressed to finish the scripts I might try to find the time.

For now the vote counting is planned to be manual. If something happens between now and when voting starts in regards to scripted counting we'll review the options, but I can only work (and plan) with what's available at the moment.

Someone now needs to stand up and update the main page, so that this thing will blast off at about 5 G's.

If you mean the main page, I modified that, to show the contest has started, "at 2009-01-22 21:56" (UTC).

I'm merely looking at the banners on the whole to see if i feel 'friendship/family' rather than relying on the shows they're from (since i don't know 99.9% of them >.>)
I guess, I'm placing an objective outlook on it. :\
Example: To you guys who know the references, you'll see a bunch of characters as sisters, good friends based on the anime story.
For me, I just see a bunch of characters.
I guess for me, I'm looking for the symbolic aspect (I've seen a few banners achieve it already though) to hit me, regardless of the theme of the show or characters involved.
Just my two pence.
Family is really subjective theme. I do not think they mean warmth by it — since thats ignorant and impossible — but the cold relationship between a group of people; it does not work any other way. I have to be honest, I do not like the theme. It was discussed right from the begging that a theme based on a particular anime genre was bad for a lot of reasons. I think the thinking here was "family/friendship = warmth" therefor "watching family = warmth", which is flawed, I do not feel warmth just watching a bunch of strangers together (and that goes for shows I know the story as well).

The symbolic aspect you noticed has yet to hit me, unfortunately. I am starting to wish they would have just gone with Night ~ beauty in simplicity

@Jinto

She reminded me more of Haruka from Minami-Ke than Kairin...

Ah my non-knowledge of such things... but a little search in google images revealed you are right. There is a huge similarity. Except for the red eyes and elven ears of'course.

The thinking was to pick a broad topic that nearly anyone can find something for, as long as it didn't involve romance. Not "heart touching, dramatic, drops you to your knees in tears" kind of stuff....just entries that show friends and/or family together. No more, no less.

I could have called the theme "platonic relationships", but it sounds kind of cold when put like that.

I haven't really cracked down on entries yet, mostly because the entries are still largely works in progress and people are still working out their ideas and concepts. So far a vast majority of the entries are perfectly acceptable with the theme so I don't suspect I'll have to nitpick much, if at all.
